This may not come as a huge surprise to many readers, but ex-President Donald Trump’s neophyte political operation has fallen into a quagmire of back-stabbing, finger-pointing, and blatant pandering. Enough so that the situation has worried potential allies and has frustrated Republican donors.
Some of Trump’s allies are pushing him to fire this crew, and the law firm associated with his 2020 campaign sent out a warning that former staffers and consultants risk if they misused campaign resources, according to Raw Story. [1] That stems from an unnamed Republican candidate who made an unsolicited to one key Trump donor’s personal cell phone, Politico [2] reports.
“Right now, it’s like a daycare, if you took all the adults away,” said one source familiar with the goings-on. “There’s virtually nobody with organizational skills left.”
Trump’s usual assortment of loyal no-goodniks, like Corey Lewandowski, Dave Bossie, Stephen Miller, and Mark Meadows — all former campaign officials or White House aides — are off on their own endeavors and have little contact with each other. They do, however, maintain ties with the ex-President.
“Trump is surrounded by people who are telling him ‘you need us,’ but they really need him,” said one person close to Trump.
One of Trump’s aides told Politico they were shocked by another aide who took credit for arranging Mar-a-Lago fundraisers at a recent event, upping their chances of being hired for other such occasions.
“I don’t begrudge anyone for wanting to make money … but don’t be so brazen about it,” the aide said.
Other Trump aides are hoping he’ll stay out of politics until next year’s midterm elections, but more than a few people aren’t exactly surprised that post-presidency the situation is just as chaotic as when he was in the White House.
“Trump has always encouraged that kind of behavior,” said a former aide. “But it is difficult to do the job like that.”
But if you listen to Trump spokesman Jason Miller, [3] who can distort information with the best of them, you’d think the situation was all sunshine and rainbows.
“Having been around Trump world for five years now, I would argue that here’s the least amount of ally competition or conflict at this point than I’ve ever seen,” Miller said. “The people who the president has kept in his orbit are all true believers who understand that he makes his own decisions (some pretty bad ones, I might add), and we all have very specific roles supporting him.”
That’s just a creative way of saying they are all blowing smoke up his hind parts. Because the only way any person can deal with this malevolent narcissist is to bow and scrape to his incessant need for attention.
