GOP Hypocrisy

UH OH, Ivanka Trump is Laying the Groundwork for Her New Grift and It’s Bad News

Ivanka Trump has been keeping pretty quiet since dear old dad left his job in January, except for a photo opp appearance she did with former Trump spiritual adviser antigay nutjob televangelist Paula White in March. She hasn’t done any interviews and has made few public appearances.

Looks like that’s about to change, however, and some folks speculate Ivanka is back on the grift again, Queerty reports.

Axios is reporting Ivanka and husband Jared Kushner will be serving as “informal advisers” at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), a newly established non-profit, and yes, that name does sound kind of grift-y.

On its website, AFPI ambiguously states:

“AFPI exists to conduct research and develop policies that put the American people first. Our guiding principles are liberty, free enterprise, national enterprise, American military superiority, foreign-policy engagement in the American interest, and the primacy of American workers, families, and communities in all we do.”

I hope whoever wrote that was paid well because it sounds like a pile of fanciful words that signify nothing. Even more questionable is this: The group’s first-year budget is set to be a massive $20 million, and in its second year that budget is expected to double to an even more massive $40 million.

For Vanity Fair’s Bess Levin, who never misses much, this situation seems pretty fishy, and she writes:

“It’s not clear how AFPI plans to fundraise, though if it’s anything like how Trump’s campaign did it, it’ll be wildly underhanded and deceitful. Earlier this month, The New York Times reported that over the course of the 2020 election, Team Trump ripped off unwitting supporters for tens of millions of dollars through a simple yet extremely shady scheme in which the default option for donations authorized the campaign to transfer the pledged amount from people’s bank accounts not once, but every single week. Later, the campaign introduced a second prechecked box that doubled a person’s contribution and was known internally as a “money bomb.”

Yeah, that sounds like something the Trump campaign would do, doesn’t it? It smacks of Trump’s sticky fingers.

And AFPI, Queerty notes, is hiring other experienced grifters: failed presidential candidate Rick Perry, Fox News personality Larry Kudlow, Florida’s Pam Bondi (who, as an adviser to the former president, spewed all sorts of misinformation about “fake ballots), and former WWE president Linda McMahon. So yeah, this sounds like a questionable group of people.

AFPI just launched its social pages this week and wouldn’t you know it, Twitter users already have some unflattering comments.

How unsurprising that Ivanka is signing on with this. There’s just nothing more that she loves than a good grift.
