Mitt Romney Blasts Back After Audience Boos Him for Voting to Impeach Trump: ‘Aren’t You Embarrassed?’
Yes, so this is where we stand.
Mitt Romney opposed President Obama in 2012 on the usual GOP platform, as predictable as a goose eating bread at the park, tax cuts for the wealthy, pro-military, pro-cop, pro-states’ rights, pro-life, all the shit that the Right wants and needs.
That was Mitt, and he won Utah in a presidential election.
Mitt Romney’s political beliefs haven’t changed at all. He voted “Yes,” to every Supreme Court justice and every other insane Trump judge. He voted for the tax cut, etc. etc. He just refused to go along with the Trump cult and saw Trump’s actions as illegal and un-American. He is a conservative Republican who won’t bow to Trump.
We fully admit, it helps to be worth near a billion dollars and a big enough presence that he can tell everyone to go to hell even if he’s voted out in his next election. Regardless, it’s still a principled stand.

And that’s exactly why the GOP in Utah (at least a significant portion) now finds Mitt to be a traitor, and a “communist,” which is almost laughable because Mitt is the polar opposite of a communist. But to the MAGAs, anyone who opposes Trump is a communist, an enemy to be hated and defeated. That is the scary part.
Somewhat impressively, Romney had a retort:
You can boo all you like. I’ve been a Republican all of my life. My dad was the governor of Michigan and I was the Republican nominee for president in 2012… Aren’t you embarrassed?
One would have better luck attempting to embarrass the kitchen table.
This video of Mitt Romney getting loudly booed by Trumpers at a Republican gathering in Utah on Saturday is incredible pic.twitter.com/NywSXAWjBW

And, of course, Twitter exploded with both laughter and terror.
Trumpublicans attack Liz Cheney as being a “RINO”. A Cheney!
They booed McCain, 2008 GOP nominee, as he was dying.
Today, they booed Romney. Called him “communist”, “traitor”. He was the GOP nominee!
These folks aren’t Republicans. They’re a damn cult. https://t.co/wB89qmfBcv

The GOP is broken when Mitt Romney gets booed and Matt Gaetz is applauded.

Mitt Romney is booed by his own constituents. Calls for Liz Cheney to be removed from Republican leadership. The GOP has firmly planted its flag in White Supremacy. Culminating with the Big Lie, Donald Trump has fomented Civil War. He must be prosecuted and held accountable.

Republicans in Utah booed Mitt Romney and called him a "communist" just to prove that they have no idea what any word with more than two syllables means.

70% of Republicans believe the The Former Guy’s Big Lie.
How do the other 30% stay in a party that continues to promote it at the expense of our nation?
Time for sane Republicans to #WALKAWAY from the madness.
Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski how about it.
— Chris Hahn (@ChristopherHahn) May 2, 2021
Susan Collins was “appalled” at Utah republicans booing and almost censuring Mitt Romney. Sure, Susan. As “appalled” as you were when you voted to acquit trump because you thought he “learned his lesson.” 🙄

Let’s check in on the cult. The cult follows the leader. Trump is the dictator:
Tone deft never Trumpers like Mitt Romney & Liz Chaney are literally living in an alternative universe where they think they can whip us back to the pre-Trump GOP where they lie to us to get elected then proceed to ignore us while they enjoy their DC swamp country club perks
Nope— Melissa Tate (@TheRightMelissa) May 2, 2021
Above. “They lie” and Trump comes in to stand up for the truth. Breathless.
Back to Romney:
Dear @MittRomney @lisamurkowski
By now, you are probably processing that the GOP cannot be fixed from within.
Your political relevance & power will therefore depend on your willingness to toe the party line further & further AWAY from decency and rationality.
I agree

Mitt Romney getting booed by Republicans is a great reminder that they don’t just put party over country; they put Trump over party.
