Spineless and Cowardly Kevin McCarthy Decides He’s Against a January 6th Commission: WHAT Is He Hiding?

Kevin McCarthy called Donald Trump from McCarthy’s office in the Capitol on January 6th. McCarthy was terrified. He demanded that Trump order his “troops” – which is what they were – out of the building. Rather than hearing Trump respond with any concern for McCarthy’s life or others, Trump made one of the most chilling statements of his presidency; “Well, Kevin, I guess they are more concerned about the election that you are.”

And there it was, laid out for the Republican leader to see. Congressional lives meant far less to Trump than stealing an election. At that point in time, McCarthy, who had Trump’s back in the House since 2018 was left on his own, until McCarthy’s own security forces rushed him out. The next day, McCarthy said Trump was responsible.

But McCarthy and Trump made up in Mar-a-Lago. Call us deeply cynical, but there have been a series of these meetings, meeting with Graham, McCarthy, and others, in which there was some opposition going into a private meeting with Trump but from that point forward… well, one is Lindsey Graham, a person who couldn’t kiss Trump’s ass hard enough.

Yesterday, McCarthy followed through. He doesn’t want a commission to investigate all that happened on January 6th, forcing everyone to ask, what is he hiding? Because we know who he won’t cross. So what is Trump hiding?

From Crooks and Liars:

GOP House leader Kevin “I think Putin pays Trump” McCarthy announced this morning he opposes the proposal for an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, which of course will hollow out support for the vote. And of course he is opposing it for highly principled reasons!

McCarthy wanted the new panel to expand beyond violence by Trump supporters and also investigate other groups, like antifa and Black Lives Matter.

Nancy Pelosi and the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee who drafted the proposal sensibly said no. (Because, you know, those groups had nothing to do with the insurrection except in the fever dreams of Trump, Qbots and friends.)

McCarthy says that given the “shortsighted scope that does not examine interrelated forms of political violence in America, I cannot support this legislation.”

Oh, noble Kevin!

This is the very very convenient excuse that the GOP uses whenever the subject of a January 6th truth commission comes up. “It has to include the summer of 2020.” We here are this website are nowhere near as savvy as Nancy Pelosi. But we might say, “Okay. We tell you what. There will be an investigation of last summer. But they will most certainly not come from the same committee. We will form two truth committees, one to investigate the violence from last summer, and a totally separate commission to investigate the attempt to overthrow the United States’ government and who led it.”

Of course, the comparisons are nowhere near as important, nor are they as organized. And only one of them was organized from the top down. It is disgusting to even have to contemplate. BUT, the stakes are so high, we would love to cut the knees out from under their argument. “We will give you your own special commission, to make findings, etc.” But we also want the January 6th one, independently looking into those events.

Kevin, we want this explained. (We will continue to put this up until it’s listed in every single news article on January 6th. There were other pols there, too.

And:

Perhaps that’s just the tip of the iceberg, Kevin. Perhaps this entire thing was planned at the highest levels, correct?

This country is under a very dark cloud until the planning that went into January 6th.
