This is a story with two parts, the first being serious. As we reported earlier today, sources leaked that Trump asked the DOJ and FEC to look into whether anything could be done about SNL and other late-night comedians. He was sick of being teased and wanted “equal time.” Apparently, he wanted them to tease Democrats, too. Obviously, this is all satire and protected speech. Thankfully, despite the DOJ’s recklessness in other areas, it was still independent enough to know that Trump was being ridiculous and dangerous.
So that’s the scary element.
The ludicrous and hilarious part is that Trump came out and strongly denied that he ever did such a thing. In the next paragraph, he says that something should be done. Perfect Trump.
“The story that I asked the Department of Justice to go after ratings-challenged (without Trump!) Saturday Night Live, and other late-night Losers, is total Fake News. It was fabricated, there were no sources, and yet the Lamestream Media goes with it.”
“Losers?” He couldn’t get a sentence out. And off he went:
“I do believe that the 100% one-sided shows should be considered an illegal campaign contribution from the Democrat [sic] Party, hard to believe I got 75 million votes (the most of any sitting President) despite all of that, together with a very Fraudulent Election.”
He had to mention the “75 million votes,” didn’t he? He does it while making it totally clear to any neutral observer that he did, in fact, ask people to look into it.
Trump made it worse when he gave a wink and a nod to Qanon folks yearning for reinstatement. He said that he’ll be back in office in 2024 or “before.”

Perfect Trump. Roar about “fake news!” Then practically admit to it. Then ends with a wink to the conspiracy theorists, keeping the MAGAs that much more detached from reality.
