Psaki Annoyed by Perhaps the Dumbest Question Yet Breaks Twitter: ‘We Don’t Preview Our Punches’

The media can sound extremely dumb sometimes and – to a degree – we include ourselves in that sweeping statement. But a reporter asked Jen Psaki a question today that was stupid enough to make some on Twitter quiver.

Many of us watched the Biden press conference after meeting with Vladimir Putin, hoping to hear that Biden put the hammer to Putin with respect to meddling in our elections and cyberattacks. That didn’t happen because, of course, Biden is not going to come out and brag about angrily pinning Putin to the wall. He is going to keep a lot of that behind closed doors. All we will hear in a press conference is that Biden addressed the topic and promised retaliation if it happened again. We are not going to hear about any heated discussion or even threats.

But even we weren’t dumb enough to expect Biden to hand Putin a list of companies or government entities that we might use in our retaliation. One doesn’t tell your adversary exactly where to expect a response. Apparently, this very basic fact escaped one member of the White House press corps, who asked why Biden didn’t give Putin a list.

We love Jen Psaki. She is often extremely clever in her answers, especially difficult questions. But this question was dumb enough that Psaki batted it away a little contemptuously. “We don’t preview our punches.”

So that happened and Twitter went off, wondering if it was the dumbest question ever asked by the media.

We are trying to get an answer as to who asked the question and will update. We don’t like to indict the entire WHCA with one dumb question.
