Trump Congratulates Nigeria, Which He Once Called a ‘Sh–hole’ Country, for Shutting Down Twitter

It is safe to say that just as Trump will never admit that he lost the 2020 election, nor try to reverse the results, it is just as accurate to say that Trump will never get over being kicked off social media. In fact, one might entertain an interesting question; If Trump was given a choice as to remain president, but off social media, or on social media but no longer president, which would he choose. It is honestly almost a toss-up.

Regardless, he remains so bitter that he is congratulating the nation of Nigeria for banning Twitter altogether because Twitter banned its president. Trump thinks he should have done the same, not realizing that he had no power to do it. From Trump’s website that now issues “Statements from the 45th President of the United States:”

Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President. More COUNTRIES should ban Twitter and Facebook for not allowing free and open speech—all voices should be heard. In the meantime, competitors will emerge and take hold. Who are they to dictate good and evil if they themselves are evil? Perhaps I should have done it while I was President. But Zuckerberg kept calling me and coming to the White House for dinner telling me how great I was. 2024?

Nigeria is a massive country, with the largest population in all of Africa. Wiki says it is also very corrupt. We do not know whether the ban on the Nigerian president resulted in the president simply turning around and banning Twitter or not. But if it is just a case of tit-for-tat, we’re not sure Nigeria deserves congratulations.

Twitter has proven that it accepts debate. It only polices danger. It polices lies about public health issues and electoral politics, it polices racism, and it polices calls to violence. Trump violated all these when any single one would have done. Had he heeded the many warnings, he would still be on Twitter debating whomever he wanted.

Moreover, competitors have emerged. No one is prohibiting Trump from joining a competitor. He doesn’t care about Facebook, he seldom posted anything on Facebook. He is obsessed with Twitter. The shot at Zuckerberg is ridiculous. We absolutely do believe that Zuckerberg came to dinner and didn’t shut up about Trump’s greatness. Every single person on earth knows that Trump can be easily played by simple compliments. Trump has a childlike approach to handling personal relationships. Tell him he’s the greatest person on earth and Trump will do anything you ask.

Regardless. The obsession will never go away. We don’t know what the Nigerian president did to earn his ban, but because the leaders of Ghana and the Republic of the Congo (along with every other African leader of which we know) remain safely on Twitter. It is not about debate and it’s not about general lies.

Trump was removed for inciting an attempted coup. That kind of idea has repercussions. In many nations, he would no longer be around to make these complaints. But it will never go away. Nothing ever has.
