Trump is in NYC Instead of New Jersey: Is Trump Keeping an Eye on Allen Weisselberg as Indictments Loom?

Late last week, reports popped up on Twitter that Trump was in “intense meetings in NYC” and some speculated as to whether this meant that indictments were coming. After all, Trump rarely goes to New York City anymore, preferring to keep himself fully isolated at his clubs. Maybe Trump feels a need to lord over people in his company, perhaps Allen Weisselberg, the CFO? It is speculation.

But it is very good speculation. Raw Story sets out the quotes from the Washington Post about comments made by Weisselberg’s ex-daughter in law, Jennifer Weisellberg, who said that Weisellberg would turn on Trump. And yet, so far, Weisselberg appears to have kept his powder dry:

“Officials involved in the Weisselberg investigation have grown frustrated about what they view as a lack of cooperation from Weisselberg and believe he continues to regularly speak with Trump, according to a person familiar with the inquiry,”

This is a big deal for Weisselberg. It is true that very wealthy people normally get off with a slap on the wrist. Normally. But this is no normal investigation. In this investigation, the target is a former president. Thus, Weisselberg faces prison if he doesn’t turn:

“I think Weissellberg’s playing Russian roulette with the district attorney’s office if he thinks that even if he is indicted he is going to get a pass,” the Post cited New York defense lawyer Robert C. Gottlieb, who previously served as a prosecutor for the district attorney’s office. “We’re not talking about fraud involving a few thousand dollars, we’re talking about allegations of a massive fraud involving millions of dollars over an extended period of time in which he was CFO.

One might see Russian roulette with the D.A.’s office as less dangerous than turning on Trump, especially if Trump is looming over him making threats himself. If the D.A.’s office nailed Trump with millions of dollars worth of financial crimes, it might mean that Trump himself is playing Russian roulette, because Trump may not be the only one interested in this game. Trump might really be playing Russian roulette.

Watch this closely.
