Even though Donald Trump left office months ago, he’s still the titular head of the Republican Party and as such, the GOP has been laboring to make sure he maintains his vice-like grip over the party and never faces any blame for anything, PoliticusUSA [1] reports. This means Tuesday was a rough day for the GOP and likely Trump.
Sure, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy did his level best to derail the 1/6 Insurrection committee, but he ultimately failed and Tuesday’s hearings must have been grueling as four brave Capitol Police officers told their stories in vivid detail. Those stories revealed Trump and his extremist, fanatical supporters warts and all.
And there was no Jim Jordan on hand to save Trump’s day.
This led [2] CNN’s Jamie Gangel to surmise this was excruciating for the former president.
“Donald Trump is not happy. What happened today is what he didn’t want to happen. He did not want any committee, and to your point, he didn’t have any Jim Jordan or any other allies there fighting or pushing back,” Gangel told CNN host Jake Tapper. “He did not want any committee, and to your point, he didn’t have Jim Jordan or any other allies there fighting back or pushing back.”
But that’s not all, she noted.
“It also was devastating because four policemen in uniform, four heroes, sat there and in devastating, excruciating detail, talked about how Donald Trump supporters were racist, were violent, were trying to stop democracy. This was a bad day for Donald Trump.”
Tapper played part of the testimony of Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn who was harassed with racial epithets by the angry, Trump-supporting mob after he told them he voted for Joe Biden.
“That prompted a torrent of racial epithets. One woman in a pink MAGA shirt yelled ‘You hear that guys? This n***er voted for Joe Biden. Then the crowd, perhaps around 20 people began screaming ‘boo— f**king n***er!'” Dunn said, fighting back tears. “No one had ever, ever called me a n***er while wearing the uniform of a Capitol Police officer. “
I hope this is excruciating for Trump. People lost their lives during this insurrection. Capitol Police officers put their lives on the lines and bravely defended those inside the Capitol. Most of us already knew Trump’s true colors were running rancid but this continues to reveal his supporters and their twisted minds.
