Jen Psaki Calls Out Ron DeSantis — Says He Needs to Decide Whether to Play Political Games or Save Lives

This is Ron DeSantis. He was and possibly still is raising money off his proud refusal to follow any common sense guidelines.

This is Governor Ron Desantis’s Florida as of yesterday:

The Florida Hospital Association confirms Florida reported more COVID hospitalizations than at any point during the entire pandemic yesterday: 10,207. The previous record (10,179) was set on July 23, 2020.

And though we’re in no way saying that younger lives matter more than the elderly, it should be noted that these patients are on the whole much younger because the most vaccinated group in America are the elderly and the delta variant hits harder.

So it is entirely understandable why Jen Psaki would be more than a little angry at Governor Ron DeSantis, as is – likely – everyone in the Biden Administration.  Yesterday, Kelly O’Dennell asked Psaki whether the administration was worried about Florida’s hospital capacity, whether there would be a need to ration care and whether assets from other parts of the country will be sent to Florida to help.

Psaki said: “We are at a very different point in the pandemic than we were a couple of months ago. We have ample vaccine. We have ample experts. We have ample resources to provide them.”

You know, I will note, as you touched on there, 20 percent of the cases we’re seeing are in Florida. There are steps and precautions that can be taken, including encouraging people to get vaccinated, encouraging people to wear masks, including allowing — allowing schools to mandate masks, and allow — allowing kids to wear masks, which is not the current state of play in Florida.

So, you know, at a certain point, leaders are going to have to choose whether they’re going to follow public health guidelines or they’re going to follow politics, and we certainly encourage all governors to follow the public health guidelines.

Bang. So, DeathSantis, are you going to continue to follow politics, making money off the “Don’t Fauci My Florida” thing, or are you going to decide to start acting like a caring adult leader who is in a position to help save lives for a reason, and chooses to do the right thing? Jen Psaki demands to know and she has a right to ask.

We will wait for your answer, at least – those of us who have time.
