Mary Trump has been making the rounds promoting her new book, Reckoning, which deals with the emotional trauma this nation suffered under “Uncle Trump.” Mary says the book is infused with ways to heal the paralyzing depression and lack of faith one feels. Today, she appeared on The View and took a shot at co-host Meghan McCain, who did not participate in either of the two segments featuring Mary.
Why? We were under the impression that Meghan was anti-Trump?
However, anyone who has read this site with any regularity knows that we’ve never considered Meghan to be anything but MAGA through and through. She may hate how Trump dealt with her father, and may not like him personally, but it never appeared to us like Meghan hated the way the MAGAs ran the country.
As we said, Meghan ducked out of the segments and the dodge didn’t go unnoticed by Mary (she’s a sharp one):
“I think that says a lot more about the Republican party than it says about anything else. What I do know is that one thing Donald proved is that using racism as a platform was successful, and I think that’s why we see so much strife in this country, and we need to continue having the kinds of conversations about race and gender that you have.”
And that is almost surely what Meghan didn’t want to hear. She knows damned well that Trump is loved because he’s willing to be as racist as his followers. He hates the same people they hate and he doesn’t apologize for it. But Mary wasn’t done:
It’s a shame that your colleague didn’t have the courage to come on and have this conversation with me — but I appreciate that you were all willing to take up these very difficult subjects because racism in my view is at the heart of everything that’s wrong in 21st century America.”
Oh nos! The worst thing that can be said about a MAGA, “weak!” And it happened just as Meghan is leaving the show. We cannot think of a more deserving going away present.
