Ivanka and Jared Were Told by McCain Family NOT to Attend John’s Funeral — They Went Anyway

Former View co-host Meghan McCain quite understandably does not love Donald Trump or the rest of his family, especially because Trump cruelly mocked [1] her father, the late Sen. John McCain even as the man was dying. But undoubtedly for Meghan McCain, the most infuriating situation was when Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner attended the Washington, D.C., memorial service for her late father.

During an interview with Watch What Happens Live on Bravo, she had plenty to say to host Andy Cohen, The Daily Mail [2] reports.

Those “funeral crashers” Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner “had no godd*mn business” attending the service for her father, she told Cohen. The service was held at Washington’s National Cathedral.

McCain, who’s now a columnist for Daily Mail is promoting her audio memoir Bad Republican, and she made it clear that her family told Trump’s family they were not welcome at the funeral.

At one point Cohen asked McCain:

“At your father’s funeral you spotted Ivanka and Jared at the back of the church. In your memoir you referred to them as ‘funeral crashers. What motivated them to come, do you think?'”

McCain noted she’s been told all kinds of things:

“I’ve heard lots of different stories,” she said. “One of my dad’s old advisers told me that it was just an event that they wanted to go to because his funeral at the National Cathedral ended up to be this enormous moment. I was told Lindsey Graham invited him. I’ve been told many different things from many different people.”

In an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s show in 2019 McCain said her family specifically told the Trumps they had no business being around her or her family.

“I thought that my family had made it clear, or at least I had, that the Trumps are unwelcome around me, and that my father had been sort of very clear about the line between the McCains and the Trumps,” she told Colbert.

It’s an experience that still upsets McCain. This is sad, really. I’m not one of her fans but this was her father’s funeral, and it’s a memory that will be with her always. But this is typical of the Trump family. They are selfish and uncaring people.

“They should never have come. They had no business being there,” she told Cohen. “I remember seeing them and seeing her specifically. They had no godd*mn business being there and it’s something that still angers me clearly.”

Then Cohen asked her about the part in her memoir where she talked about taking a phone call from Donald Trump while her father was sick.

“He called because there was a report in Axios by [journalist] Mike Allen that he had been making fun of my dad’s war injuries,” McCain said.

Trump specifically mocked the way McCain walked. McCain received injuries while a prisoner of war during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

In a story, I wrote Wednesday McCain noted Trump “denied making fun of my dad’s war injuries and he didn’t apologize, but he said ‘I didn’t do this, this fake news.” Then Melania hopped on and told Meghan, “We love you, we love your dad,’ and I was like ‘You don’t but okay.'”

But perhaps the most notorious part occurred when Trump insulted McCain during a Q &A session in Iowa in 2015.

“He’s not a war hero,” Trump said. “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

So it’s completely understandable that Meghan McCain wants nothing to do with this horrible family. Who can blame her?

Here’s what McCain had to say in the video below.
