If Mother Theresa, Nobel Peace Prize recipient herself, were to be here on the phone with God, she wouldn’t be able to relate why the MAGA are obsessed with Ivermectin as a COVID medicine, but utterly impermeable when it comes to rational argument about the vaccine.
Marj appeared on “Real America’s Voice,” and talked about the benefits of ivermectin against COVID. During her reasoned argument, Marj noted that this esteemed medicine had even won a Nobel Peace Prize.”
We will say once again that Marj’s primary opponent was a radically red neurosurgeon, and we’re willing to bet that the neurosurgeon would at least know that medicines don’t win Nobel Prizes, those go to people. Moreover, the Peace Prize is given out to… people that help people, a lot of people, in a selfless way.
The people (aka “doctors”) that won the Prize for Medicine and Physiology, were scientists William C. Campbell and Satoshi Omura, who won the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Their work showed that ivermectin can be effective in treating infections caused by roundworm parasites.
COVID-19 is a lot of things, but it’s not a roundworm parasite. It is a virus. At some point, someday, ivermectin may be able to show some sort of statistical benefit. This benefit will be outweighed by the effectiveness of the vaccine. We suspect that the doctors that developed ivermectin in order to fight parasites would wholeheartedly agree. They would agree that the medicine did not win the Peace Prize, and that the vaccine is a far better choice, with fewer side effects.
Marjorie then asserted:
“It is deeply irresponsible for the Biden administration, the CDC, Dr. Fauci, and any of these doctors to be advising people to not prescribe it.”
This statement is, of course, as wrong as asserting that medicines win peace prizes. It would be utterly irresponsible for the CDC to authorize medicines for which there are no data.
It is interesting that the MAGAs are arguing for medicine without data over a vaccine that comes with data. But, as we’ve said before, rejecting the vaccine and wanting ivermectin is the new means by which the MAGAs trigger the libs.
And they are not giving that up any time soon.
