Ted Cruz Explodes at AG Garland as He Defends Parents Doing Nazi Salutes at School Board Meetings

In a Senate hearing Wednesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland answered the breathless questions of Republicans who called for his resignation and even thanked God that he wasn’t on the Supreme Court.

All of this over a memo that Garland issued regarding vi0lent threats at school board meetings over issues that have conservative parents riled up: Mask mandates, vaccines, and critical race theory.

Now, never mind that the mandates are intended to save lives and that zero schools that hold board meetings parents can attend teach critical race theory — a law-level course taught to college students. Never mind that parents are only mad because the GOP is lying to them. Republicans are angry because they feel that the Department of Justice is targeting conservatives.

In fact, when it was his turn to question Garland, Senator Ted Cruz launched into a diatribe about how the AG, during his confirmation, declared he would never target individuals over their politics or political agendas.

Here was your answer, quote: ‘Absolutely. It’s totally inappropriate for the Department to target any individual because of their politics or their position in a campaign.’

So what were the “politics” that Cruz was defending in the committee hearing today? It was a Nazi salute done by a parent at one such meeting. Cruz was insistent that reports of threats at school board meetings were overblown and that Garland never should have issued such a memo calling on the FBI to investigate those threats. But when he detailed the actual incidents, he almost bragged that only 25 percent of them had involved vi0lent threats.

One of them was “just” a Nazi salute, of which Cruz demanded to know the First Amendment protected status.

They involve things like insults, they involve a Nazi salute. That’s one of the examples. My God! A parent did a Nazi salute at a school board because he thought the policies were oppressive. General Garland, is doing a Nazi salute at an elected official, is that protected by the First Amendment?

Of course it’s protected speech to give a Nazi salute. The point is to identify why parents are giving Nazi salutes at school board meetings about things that aren’t even happening, like schools teaching CRT.

Ted really ought to pick his fights a little better. Watch:
