Why Donald Trump Allegedly Rolled His Eyes at Prince Charles After a Private Meeting

As we found out after four years of his whining, bellyaching, and generally bellicose behavior, former President Donald Trump loves nothing more than unrelenting adulation. He loves good old-fashioned pomp and circumstance, just like Britain’s royal family does. I’m sure many of us remember the hissy fits he threw when he didn’t get his much talked about military parade.

Apparently, he was in a similarly unpleasant mood during a 2019 to the UK. He and the missus, Melania Trump were there to attend a state dinner hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, according to former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, in her book I’ll Take Your Questions Now, Insider reports.

It seems that Prince Charles was of a mind to discuss climate change during a private tea, per Grisham’s book, so Trump, who’d been jovial at first, was in a sour mood by the time things concluded.

In her memoir, Grisham notes Trump is quite fond of the Queen, but not so keen on Prince Charles. One can make the assumption that Trump’s ill-humor could be because Charles is the heir apparent to the throne while Trump’s last job ended, um, abruptly. With no pomp or circumstance.

Whatever the reason, when Donald and Melania Trump had tea with Prince Charles, Trump complained: “that the conversation had been terrible.”

“Nothing but climate change,” Trump said, rolling his eyes.

Grisham writes that at this point, Melania laughed at her husband’s reaction.

“Oh yes, he was very bored,” she said, referring to her husband.

Melania, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy herself and “had a lovely time” meeting with Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall at Clarence House, their official residence.

After the tea, Trump was interviewed by Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, where he discussed some of the issues he and Prince Charles had talked about. According to Trump, climate change was the big-ticket item.

“He is really into climate change, and I think that’s great,” Trump said, regarding the Prince of Wales. “I totally listened to him.”

“What he really wants and what he really feels warmly about is the future,” Trump said. “He wants to make sure future have good climate, as opposed to a disaster, and I agree.”

That led Morgan to ask Trump if he truly believed in climate change, and this is the part where Trump did what he does best: say a whole bunch of something about nothing.

“I believe there’s a change in weather, and I think it changes both ways,” Trump told Morgan. “Don’t forget it used to be called global warming, that wasn’t working, then it was called climate change, now it’s actually called extreme weather, because with extreme weather, you can’t miss.”

So, in other words, Trump wormed his way out of the question without actually answering it.
