As everyone knows, the pro-life party is pro-life right up and until the moment the baby is outside the mother’s uterus. At that point, the GOP expects the baby to pull itself up by its bootstraps, watch itself, and for mom to be at work the next day.
Oh, sure, the United States generously offers the Family Medical Leave Act, which requires companies with 50 or more employees to offer six full weeks of unpaid medical leave.
So that’s great, so long as mom has three to four months’ rent and bills in the bank, it’s wonderful. Except most Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and mom will be lucky if she can take one week off, lest she not miss rent for the new little runt that was so important in her womb, but might be homeless if mom isn’t at work in a bit.
It is against this backdrop that Tucker Carlson, quickly climbing the ladder to the world’s “Worst Human Being” title, decided he would mock the fact that Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his husband availed themselves of the federal government’s paternity leave provisions for the twins that the couple adopted.
But Tucker didn’t just mock Buttigieg for taking a nominal amount of time (compared to the rest of the world) of a couple of months – surely also working from home. No, it was not enough to mock Buttigieg for taking that time. Tucker had to mock whether or not Secretary Pete was doing well with “breastfeeding” his two newborns.
We mentioned the world’s worst human being, yes?
Tucker Carlson mocks Pete Buttigieg for taking paternity leave: "Paternity leave, they call it, trying to figure out how to breastfeed, no word on how that went." pic.twitter.com/zFnp6uSser [1]

And you know exactly what the internet thought of that comment:
No job is more important than being a parent, and no person is so indispensable that they cannot be with their families when they need to be. The attacks on Secretary Buttigieg wreak of outdated notions toxic to all men, all parents and all workers. https://t.co/LruDz1xsBv [3]

Hey @TuckerCarlson [7] your feeble attempt at humor re. Buttigieg breast feeding is messed up.
I think @jonstewart [8] had it right when he called you a DICK decades ago. You haven't changed a bit. https://t.co/9sxMaAsSDi [9]— Dave Anderson (@DaveDwander501) October 15, 2021 [10]

The latest reminder of how morally repugnant Tucker Carlson can be. Mocking @PeteButtigieg [16] for being a gay parent and taking paternity leave is beyond the pale. https://t.co/Fe6caoLr6L [17]

Still angry about this 12 hours later. Tucker Carlson is a disgusting piece of shit who has zero redeeming qualities. I feel bad for his kids. He must be a shitty father too. https://t.co/zdqktFRs63 [21]

Keep climbing that ladder, Tuck, keep climbing.
