Dr. Anthony Fauci is done with Republicans.
He played the good soldier under Trump. He wouldn’t lie for Trump, but he wasn’t able to be near as direct as he might have liked. Now he just wants to do his job, which is to protect the American people from a medical, public health, perspective.
The Republicans want to stand in his way. Dr. Fauci is 81 years old, has been through Trump, faces a new, possibly extremely serious variant, and doesn’t have time for Republicans, as he proved today on Face the Nation.
From Mediaite, Fauci starts out discussing the fact that the Republicans who “confront” him in committees don’t bother him:
“Anybody who spins lies and threatens and all that theater that goes on with some of the investigations and the congressional committees and the Rand Pauls and all that other nonsense, that’s noise … that’s noise,” Fauci said. “I know what my job is.”
Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan then referenced Cruz.
“Senator Cruz told the attorney general you should be prosecuted,” she said.
And here is where Fauci proves not only that he just doesn’t have time to care about politics, but that he’s not just a genius in medicine. He knows the score.
“I should be prosecuted?!” Fauci said. “What happened on Jan. 6, senator?!”
Brennan followed up by asking, “Do you think that this is about making you a scapegoat to deflect from [former] President [Donald] Trump?”
“Of course!” Fauci replied. “You have to be asleep not to figure that one out.”
What did happen on January 6th, Sen. Cruz? If there was a conspiracy to remove Mike Pence from the Capitol, it wouldn’t do any good without a few Senators there to object to the entire proceeding. Fauci finished first in his class at Cornell, none of this stuff is getting by him.
And we should be very thankful to have him on the job, not caring about being seen as “political,” while knowing what his job is.
Dr. Fauci on Ted Cruz saying he should be prosecuted: "I should be prosecuted? What happened on January 6, senator?"
And on Republicans scapegoating him: "That's okay. I'm just gonna do my job, and I'm gonna be saving lives, and they're gonna be lying." pic.twitter.com/fJm1Hh8lSJ
