Election 2020

‘Trump is a Coward’, Republican Says He Regrets Voting Against Certifying 2020 Election Results

One of the first to do so, Tom Rice (R-SC) has publicly admitted that it was a mistake not to vote to certify the election on January 6, and going even further, has placed the blame for the Capitol riots completely on Donald Trump. He made a statement to Politico on Wednesday where he expressed that while he still believes there may have been issues surrounding the 2020 presidential election, he regrets that he voted to sustain objections to the results in two states.

Rice is setting a precedent to take this stance among his colleagues, many of whom voted the same way he did on January 6. Looking back, he said that, “In retrospect, I should have voted to certify. […] In the wee hours of that disgraceful night, while waiting for the Capitol of our great country to be secured, I knew I should vote to certify.”

The GOP representative went further than just admitting guilt about his own decisions, but he also had quite a few harsh words to say about the former president that he used to follow, calling him a coward and saying he watched the violence of the riot at the Capitol “with pride.”

There were 146 other republican representatives who voted the same way as Rice on January 6, choosing to object to the election results in both Arizona and Pennsylvania. That very same day, the Capitol was overcome so aggressively that it cost five people their lives, not to mention the hundreds of other physical and mental injuries that those in the building suffered that day.
