Trump Laughably Claims Melania’s White House Christmas Displays Got ‘Great Reviews’

Now that President Joe Biden and first lady Dr. Jill Biden are receiving positive reviews for the beautiful White House Christmas displays, former President Donald Trump has to try to take some of that pleasant spotlight away. Because that’s Trump. He can’t stand it when the Bidens receive pleasant coverage, so he’s determined to steal some of that for himself.

And in this case, for Melania, according to Raw Story.

In an interview with Mike Huckabee (remember him?) Trump claimed former first lady Melania Trump’s White House Christmas displays received “great reviews.”

Trump and Huckabee were participating in this little embarrassment from Mar-a-Lago for a Christmas special that aired on (where else?) Newsmax TV. Perhaps it was also featured in the Weekly World News right next to a photo of Bat Boy.

At one point Huckabee asked Trump “How does the Trump family celebrate Christmas?” (Other than say, avoiding subpoenas.)

“Well, different ways for different years,” Trump said. “I mean, we had New York. Now we’re in Florida. Florida’s been a state that’s treated me so well, and I still love New York. New York is incredible.”

He reminisced about those White House Christmases.

“Then I had the White House years, and having Christmas at the White House and being — even the environment, and Melania always did a fantastic job of fixing up the trees,” Trump said. “I mean, she did magnificent displays, and generally speaking even from the super-liberal press, got great reviews, which is shocking, Okay? Because they didn’t like giving us good reviews.”

“And then now we spend it in Florida, and Christmas in Florida is very beautiful,” Trump said.

But who can possibly forget those stabby, blood-red trees? Whatever Melania was trying to do those trees will remain in people’s memories for years to come.

And the “super-liberal press” didn’t fail to remark on that.

Newsweek, in a story about Dr. Jill’s holiday decorations, noted that “the former first lady’s stint in the White House will forever be associated with her dystopian blood-red Christmas trees in the East Colonnade in 2018 and her infamous hatred of the holiday that was leaked to the world through a secretly-recorded phone call.”

New York Magazine found Melania’s blood-red trees “deeply haunted.” The Guardian was considerably less complimentary, noting that “these 40 meme-ready trees were compared to car wash brushes, juxtaposed with iconic blood waves in Stephen King’s The Shining and photoshopped to don white bonnets — a clear reference to the long-suffering women in Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

Melania and her oddball Christmas decorations certainly did provide plenty of grist for the media mill. The Biden Christmas White House is considerably less flashy but Melania’s decorations were cold and austere. The Bidens are keeping things homey, which is refreshing once again.
