Liz Cheney Unloads on Gingrich for Saying Members of Jan 6 Panel Could Be Jailed for Investigating Pro-Trump Siege

Well, now – this, is something fascinating to learn. House Republicans are looking to Newt Gingrich for advice as to how to handle the situation they’re in, call it a pickle. The “pickle” involves the fact that with each new drip, drip, drip, of a fact that comes out from the Select Committee, the insurrection looks increasingly like what it actually was, an attempted coup to keep the validly elected president out of office.

Now, why would any Republicans want that violent coup attempt just batted away as if it never happened? Could it be because it was not that big a secret going into the day?

We don’t know. We do know that Gingrich was on Maria Bartiromo’s show yesterday (as we reported) and told the audience that “when” (not if) the Republicans seize control of the House, they will be jailing people from the Select Committee, despite the fact that that is not their job, nor is it at all warranted.

In other words, Gingrich – who oversaw impeaching a president about a stain on a dress and a quasi lie about it, is now upset about the “viciousness” of the committee. Well, Liz Cheney responded today, according to The Hill:

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) slammed former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) after he suggested that members of the select congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of former President Trump may be jailed for their work.

…”You’re going to have a Republican majority in the House and a Republican majority in the Senate. And all of these people who have been so tough and so mean and so nasty are going to be delivered subpoenas,” Gingrich said,  adding the lawmakers heading up the commission are “just running over the law.”

To which Cheney responded perfectly, professionally:

“A former Speaker of the House is threatening jail time for members of Congress who are investigating the violent January 6 attack on our Capitol and our Constitution,” Cheney said in a tweet on Sunday. “This is what it looks like when the rule of law unravels.”

This, of course, coming from Newt Gingrich. The man who was so mean, nasty, and ignorant of the law, that he lost control of the House and promptly quit.
