GOP Hypocrisy

Madison Cawthorn Says That Marjorie Taylor Greene is the Real Leader of the Republican Party

GOP Rep. Madison Cawthorn has certainly riled up some of his fellow Republicans lately. On a podcast last week, he ruffled feathers when he said he had been invited to orgies and watched folks doing cocaine in front of him during his time in Washington, CNN reports.

Minority House Leader Kevin McCarthy seemed especially offended — enough so that he held a meeting with the young Congressman from North Carolina.

“I’m very disappointed. I told him he’s lost my trust,” McCarthy said after the meeting Wednesday with Cawthorn. “He’s lost my trust. He’s going to have to earn it back.”

McCarthy also said he thinks Cawthorn either exaggerated or simply made the whole thing up.

CNN reports McCarthy isn’t the only Republican who’s upset about Cawthorn’s comments.

The situation bothered North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis so much that he decided to back one of Cawthorn’s primary opponents. CNN also reports that two of the state’s most powerful leaders — Senate Leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore — are headlining a fundraiser for Sen. Chuck Edwards, the Cawthorn opponent Tillis is supporting.

The funny thing is, McCarthy and the others bothered by this, had little to say when GOPers Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar addressed a conference organized by Nick Fuentes a notorious White nationalist.

Sure McCarthy called the incident “appalling” and “unacceptable” and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a written statement calling out Greene and Gosar and claiming “There’s no place in the Republican Party for white supremacists or anti-Semitism.”

A few other Republicans also lambasted Greene and Gosar but there’s likely to be even more fun ahead since this video is now surfacing, in which Cawthorn calls Greene the “real leader of the Republican Party.”

“Really odd that Madison Cawthorn would be talking about Republican colleagues inviting him to do coke and go to orgies less than two months after hanging out at a club in Miami with Matt Gaetz and Marge Greene.”

And of course, we can’t forget Gaetz is facing sex-trafficking charges, now can we? Seems like Cawthorn, Greene, and Gaetz all deserve each other. It is kind of fun to see Cawthorn get McCarthy and Tillis riled up, though.
