Election 2020

Don Jr. Thinks His Dad’s Plan to Bomb Mexico is Totally Awesome: ‘Is That a Bad Thing?’

It’s shocking enough that evidence has come forward to suggest that former President Donald Trump hoped to bomb drug labs in Mexico, but now his eldest son Donald Trump Jr. is defending his dad by saying this wasn’t such a bad idea.

Newsweek reports that the younger Trump made these remarks on Twitter right after former Defense Secretary Mark Esper claimed that the former president discussed firing Patriot missiles into Mexico. Esper has caused quite a stir lately after releasing a book Tuesday that highlights some of the most dangerous aspects of Trump’s behavior. And of course, the tweet from Trump Jr. shows that he’s one of dear old dad’s most ardent defenders.

“I’m still trying to figure out the recent media outrage about my father wanting to target Mexican drug cartel manufacturing facilities in Mexico… Is that supposed to be a bad thing???” he wrote on Twitter.

I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but the fact that innocent children could be victims in this really does seem like a bad idea. And Esper, in his book A Sacred Oath: Memoirs of a Defense Secretary in Extraordinary Times, tells us that Trump asked him twice about launching missiles into our neighbor to the south to “destroy the drug labs.” Apparently, Trump trotted this idea out in the summer of 2020 by saying “we could just shoot some Patriot missiles and take out the labs, quietly.” He wrapped that up by suggesting that “no one would know it was us.”

Sitting down with 60 Minutes, Esper discussed the private conversations in which Trump pushed the idea.

Of course, Esper would have to smooth talk him out of doing something this dangerous.

“I’d say ‘Mr. President, you know, I understand the motive’—because he was very serious about dealing with drugs in America. I get that, we all understand,” Esper said. “But I had explained to him, we can’t do that. It would violate international law. It would be terrible for our neighbors to the south. It would, you know, impact us in so many ways.”

In his latest tweet, Trump Jr. noted that U.S. forces had killed civilians in Afghanistan via missile strike while president Joe Biden was in the middle of withdrawing troops from the country. The strike was initially reported by The New York Times. But the younger Trump also wanted to know why the Biden administration’s “media backers” have kept mum even though they are complaining about his father’s plans to deploy missiles against drug cartels.

Trump Wanted to Fire Rockets Into Mexico and Pretend Like the U.S. Didn’t Do It

Trump wound up firing Esper in the usual way after the 2020 election had concluded. He simply took to Twitter. That’s when he began working on his memoir. He also decided to sue the Department of Defense so he could get access to important documents.

Esper told 60 minutes he hesitated in telling the story about Trump wanting to use missiles against Mexico because he knew people in Trump’s circle would dismiss this, while others would think the story was made up.

But then over dinner with a fellow cabinet member, he had a lightning rod moment. Esper noted the cabinet member remembered Trump making the suggestion. The cabinet member said he was also impressed with the way Esper talked Trump out of doing this.

“And at that moment, I knew I gotta write the story, because I at least have one witness who will verify that this really did happen,” he said.

The Defense department tried to stop Mark Esper from revealing that Trump wanted to secretly bomb Mexico drug plants

It’s kind of preposterous that Trump even considered taking such a radical act, but it helps us remember just how fanatical this man could be. Loss of human life would be the result but since he’d be bombing brown people, Trump probably wouldn’t care.
