Just Hours After Uvalde Tragedy, Gov. Abbott Attended ‘High Dollar’ Political Fundraiser — and Reporter Calls Him Out for It

Good God. Governor Greg Abbott really sucks. And here’s yet another example why.

Just hours after the school shooting in Uvalde on Tuesday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott went to a fundraiser for his reelection campaign. Mind you, the victim’s little bullet ravished bodies were probably still laying on the floor in their elementary school, and Abbott was yukking it up with donors and supporters. Freaking disgusting. The fundraiser was at a “private residence” according to the Texas Tribune, and that usually means a rich donor who has the money and a gorgeous mansion to host such an event. The event was described as a “high-dollar” event by the Quorum Report, which specializes in local Texas news.

Abbott’s spox for his reelection campaign has since said that all “campaign and political activity” has been postponed. Too late bud. We caught ya. Not like it matters. He won’t lose votes because of it.

The mass shooting at Robb Elementary School on Tuesday left 19 children and two teachers dead. The 18-year-old gunman, who purchased two assault weapons days before the shooting rampage, was killed at the scene. The gunman also shot his grandmother, but she survived.

Abbott went to a fundraiser 300 miles away from Uvalde as these victims most likely still were laying where they were gunned down at Robb Elementary School.

From Business Insider:

Abbott gave a press conference with details on the shooting on Tuesday afternoon from Abilene, Texas, which is located some 245 miles north of Uvalde. The governor was in the area for a briefing on local wildfires, after which he traveled further east to Walker County, north of Houston, for the fundraiser, his campaign spokesperson said.

“After holding a briefing and press conference on the current wild fires in Taylor County, where he also provided an update on the situation in Uvalde, the Governor did stop by a previously scheduled event last night at a private home in Walker County,” Abbott campaign spokesperson Mark Miner said in a statement, per The Texas Tribune.

While Abbott and other officials addressed the shooting, a reporter asked him, “Why did you not cancel that event?” The reporter also noted the promise from Abbott’s office to postpone political events until further notice, so he asked whether Abbott would still be attending the NRA’s annual convention, where former Donald Trump is also going to speak (and has refused to cancel).

Abbott of course totally defended his actions with a bunch of meaningless gibberish.

“That is when I learned about the shooting that was taking place pretty much at that time here,” he said. “On the way back to Austin, I stopped and let people know that I could not stay, that I needed to go, and I wanted them to know what happened, and get back to Austin so I could continue my collaboration with Texas law enforcement to make sure all the needs were being met here in the Uvalde area.”

So he just dropped into the fundraiser to let them know he couldn’t stay? That couldn’t have been done via Facetime or just a statement? And Austin wasn’t “on the way”, Walker County is more east so he had to go out of his way. I am sure the people at the fundraiser would’ve understood if he couldn’t attend. Heck, I am probably giving them too much credit. They probably expected Abbott to show up so they could get their thumbs-up photo that they likely paid $1000 a head for.

Abbott could’ve stayed in Uvalde until every single one of these people had been comforted. Beto would have. But nope, a party awaits!

When addressing what would happen in the future, Abbott said, “I’m living moment to moment right now. My heart, my head, and my body are in Uvalde right now, and I’m here to help the people who are hurting.”

Sure bud.

In the same presser, Beto O’Rourke interrupted Abbott and called him out for being a useless, complicit POS.

“You’re doing nothing. You are offering us nothing. This is totally predictable,” O’Rourke said.

Props to this reporter for calling Abbott slimeball out:
