Well, it was quite a day on Fox News on Tuesday, following yet another devastating January 6th hearing in which Donald Trump’s actions on that day are becoming more and more obvious that he committed a crime. And when the analysts on Fox News say things like “unfit for office” and “guilty of a crime” you know it was a bad day for Trump.
Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Andy McCarthy, commenting on the latest revelations from Tuesday’s hearing, told fellow Fox News analysts Jonathan Turley, John Roberts, and Anita Vogel that Trump’s pressuring officials to reject the official ballots for the 2020 presidential election shows his “unfitness,” and that Trump may be “guilty of a crime.”
OUCH. Mind you, these analysts aren’t “RINOs” as Trump would call them. Jonathan Turley testified for Trump in his impeachment hearing. These are genuine conservatives who are saying Trump is in some deep shit.
According to Mediaite [1], McCarthy said, “What I would just say is that if you had a different perspective being presented here, I don’t think that would be very helpful to President Trump, per se, because the evidence pretty clearly shows his unfitness,” McCarthy argued, adding:
It even suggests that he may be guilty of a crime, maybe, maybe not, there are arguments on both sides, but I would highlight here is the plausible gap, a scheme that attacked every tier of government versus how likely it was to succeed.
I think what the committee is showing our presidential elections are so diffuse, the authority is so extensively spread out between the federal and state governments that there was no way that he could have pulled this off ever.
McCarthy added that there is “no defending what President Trump did” on Jan. 6, 2021. “If you were a defense lawyer, if you were someone with a different perspective than the anti-Trump perspective that’s carried by the committee, I don’t think there’s any defending what President Trump did. The most you could do would be to try to put it in some kind of a mitigating context.”
McCarthy also wrote in his Tuesday column for the National Review [2] that it is “unnecessary for the committee to demonstrate either that Trump is unfit for the presidency or that he may be guilty of a crime.” He states that the committee has successfully shown that Trump is “unfit for office” and that “it may even be showing that he obstructed Congress or … conspired to defraud the United States.”
And Jonathan Turley also had some bad news for Trump.
John Roberts asked Turley if more Republicans were sitting on the committee, whether the proceedings would look any different.
“Well, I think that they were absolutely right about how having the opposing side, not on the riot itself or the elections, but just having questioning from the other side of the aisle would have added greater credibility and I don’t think it would have undermined this powerful testimony,” Turley responded.
“These are respected Republicans like the speaker of the Arizona House. And some of this was extraordinarily compelling, you know,” Turley continued, referencing Rep. Rusty Bower’s testimony [3]. Turley praised Bowers and noted his recounting of the threats he faced “was really authentic and it was really compelling, and I think people need to really wonder about what they’re doing when they treat these figures like they are not human beings.”
