Mick Mulvaney Says That Jared Kushner is Lying in His New Book, Including the Part About Ivanka Being ‘Shoved’ by John Kelly

A jovial Chris Wallace appeared on CNN’s New Day and revealed what he and former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said about Jared Kushner’s new book as they sat in CNN’s green room. There were smiles all around as Wallace and fellow CNN anchors John Berman and Brianna Keilar discussed the main topic of Wallace’s and Mulvaney’s chat: Jared Kushner’s new book Breaking History: A White House Memoir.

Wallace followed Mulvaney’s appearance and offered commentary that wasn’t brought up in Mulvaney’s interview, Mediaite reports. But it was in the second segment that Wallace offered up the meatiest bits of the green room conversation, much to the obvious delight of Keilar and Berman.

And of course, Mulvaney’s thoughts on Kushner’s new book were the highlight. Wallace said Mulvaney pinpointed two parts of Kushner’s book that were — I’m going to put this nicely since the Gods of Facebook are easily offended — baloney.

As you might expect, Mulvaney discussed Kushner’s retelling of the time when Donald Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly stormed angrily out of a meeting and allegedly shoved Ivanka Trump. But in another section of the book, Kushner claims he told Mulvaney that he’d been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. And Mulvaney called malarkey on both of Kushner’s accounts.

Jared Kushner claims in his forthcoming memoir that former President Donald Trump’s second chief of staff, John Kelly, “shoved” Ivanka Trump in a fit of “rage” following a heated Oval Office meeting.

Keilar and Berman were clearly enjoying this and jokingly suggested a new show that could feature a GoPro-mounted Wallace airing juicier bits of the conversations that you don’t hear in interviews.

Wallace, of course, laughs this off and then tells his story:

“Can I just tell you one really quick thing, because we all know— I hope I don’t drive the control room nuts. We all know that oftentimes the conversation in the green room is more interesting than what’s said on the air, the green room where we wait before we come on the air,” he said.

“I was talking with Mick Mulvaney, Jared Kushner’s new book came out in which he says that the John Kelly the pre- the predecessor for him as White House chief of staff, shoved Ivanka out of the way. He said that is inconceivable. Could he have brushed by her?  Yeah. Inconceivable  that John Kelly, White House chief of staff, would have shoved Ivanka.”

“He also said — in the book Kushner claims that he told Mulvaney that he had thyroid cancer. Mulvaney said ‘He never told me that. I have no recollection of it. And if he had, I would have remembered it,'” Wallace recounted.

Berman, sharing an easy laugh, asked:

“Where were you? When I was talking to Mick Mulvaney? Where were you? What? I was talking to Chris Wallace. We had to put a GoPro on your head so we get some of this stuff on tape. ”

“Could be a show,” Keilar interjected.

Keilar and Berman, in unison:

“The Green Room with Chris Wallace!”

“You’re going to say you’re going to see some things you don’t want to see if you have a GoPro on my head,” Wallace says, chuckling.

“That’s an even better tease. Right?” Berman says.

“You think we don’t want to see,” Keilar says.

This sounds like fun, but it could be pretty interesting too. Journalists whether on television or in print, carefully craft their questions. So they get answers that have usually been rehearsed. Sitting around in a green room and chatting with the other guests could provide some unscripted gems.
