Election 2020

Trump Gives CNN 10-Day Ultimatum to Stop Talking About His Election Lies or He’ll Sue

Cheers, folks! We have now reached the stage where Donald Trump thinks he can tell the news media what to say about him — especially when it comes to his election lies (of which there are many). His spokesperson has given CNN 10 days to quit pointing out his election lies or he’ll sue them.

That spokesperson, Liz Harrington told the rapidly sinking ship One America News that Trump has “truth and facts on his side” and is prepared to take action against the network, The Independent reports.

I’ll give you a minute to stop laughing and then go on…

Okay, you ready?

Harrington had this to say:

“Now they are spreading lies about President Trump and the 2020 election when the truth and facts are on President Trump’s side,” she said. “The truth will always win in the end.”

Did you need another minute? I’ll understand if you do…

Every rally and conference is filled with Trump airing his grievances and telling the same lie that the election was stolen from him.

Trump has spent months AND months since his loss making completely false claims about the elections and is now asserting that CNN  began defaming him all the way back in 2016 at the beginning of his White House campaign.

“I have notified CNN of my intent to file a lawsuit over their repeated defamatory statements against me,” Trump said in a statement.

“I will also be commencing actions against other media outlets who have defamed me and defrauded the public regarding the overwhelming evidence of fraud throughout the 2020 Election. I will never stop fighting for the truth and for the future of our Country!”

But here’s the thing that Trump perhaps doesn’t understand: In order for something to be considered defamation, it has to be considered a lie. And CNN along with scores of other media have proven Trump’s false election claims are lies, so who’s defaming who here?

Trump’s lawyers, obviously not easily dissuaded, sent CNN a 282-page letter, calling for the network to retract a series of on-air statements and articles that they say are false or defamatory.

Per the Independent:

“The letter highlights dozens of Mr. Trump’s debunked election fraud claims that CNN had described as ‘lies,’ ‘false narratives,’ and ‘baseless theories.'”

After his loss to Joe Biden, Trump & co. filed literally dozens of lawsuits alleging election fraud. Which wound up being thrown out of court by judges across the nation. Including judges Trump himself had appointed.

I’ll never forget seeing this photo the night of Jan 6th, when smoke grenades were deployed on the Senate side of US Capitol to disperse rioters. What a horrific sight.

So this little episode ought to be fun. Somehow I think Trump’s going to be disappointed.
