Ex-Trump Lawyer Says Congress Should Disqualify Trump From Public Office Forever

He may have been former President Donald Trump’s White House lawyer, but Ty Cobb said he believes Trump gave “aid and comfort to the insurrectionists” during the January 6 2021 Capitol riot.

“The Pence tweet, coupled with the three hours of inaction, in my view, easily fits into the definition of giving aid and comfort to the insurrectionists,” Cobb told [1] CNN’s Erin Burnett on Tuesday. He was referring to a tweet Trump posted on Jan. 6, 2021, where Trump sharply criticized Pence for not doing his bidding and went on to certify Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential win.

Cobb also went on to discuss Article III of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This specifically prohibits anyone involved in an insurrection against the country’s government from holding public office, Insider [1] reports. This, he notes, is something “Congress has at its disposal.”

“I don’t for the life of me understand why, instead of telling the Justice Department what to do, why [Congress isn’t] acting on that alone,” Cobb told Burnett. “The penalty of finding Trump guilty of giving aid and comfort to an insurrectionist is disqualification from office.”

Trump’s former White House attorney, Ty Cobb, demands that Trump be “disqualified” from running for ANY public office ever again

At one point Burnett asked him if Trump’s defense that he believes the 2020 election was stolen from him will continue to hold up, Cobb said he didn’t think so.

“I think that’s very damaging for someone who wants to argue willful blindness,” he said.

And Cobb went a step further. Since he knows Trump, Cobb has a handle on how the ex-president will handle the situation.

“I also think that while Trump may argue that defense, I think he is more likely to use the trial in an effort to deal with his themes — that he’s all powerful, he got cheated, and he’s the only one standing up for the country.”

The January 6 House Select Committee is assiduously continuing its investigation into Trump’s role in the insurrection. Let’s hope after all this time their findings stick to Trump.
