Melania Cared More About Her Closet Being Rifled Through Than What Her Husband Did That Caused the FBI to Issue the Search Warrant

Former first lady Melania Trump was not thrilled when FBI agents rifled through her bedroom belongings and closet. But even though this left her feeling “annoyed,” Melania kept her infamous cool about the situation. Insider reports she wasn’t “overly” worried about the ongoing federal investigation into her husband, former President Donald Trump.

Someone who knows the former first lady well told CNN that the search “annoyed her” but it wasn’t because the investigation may turn into very real trouble for her husband and his kids. Nope. The raid interrupted her privacy and Melania is well-known for her reclusiveness.

“She’s private, and she’s protective of her son and her home,” the source said.

Donald Trump was, of course, the exact opposite and was upset after finding out agents rummaged through her closet, Politico reports. The search, as pretty much every American who isn’t dead knows, stems from the lengthy federal investigation into the former president’s handling of classified documents after departing office.

“Just learned that agents went through the First Lady’s closets and rummaged through her clothing and personal items,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Surprisingly, left area in a relative mess. Wow!”

Melania, however, has maintained her usual calm regarding the search and hasn’t commented publicly about the situation. “She cared, but not like he cared,” one source said, per CNN.

“Why would she say anything?” adds one person who’s well-acquainted with her aloof nature. “Her thinking is, if she’s quiet, it will just go away.”

Some sources are also saying the biggest reason Melania isn’t concerned about what agents might have found in her space is that she and her husband have separate closets and keep their items separated.

“She would never allow him to keep his stuff in her room, and he would frankly never ask,” one person told CNN.

And Melania has “always considered what Donald does to be separate from her,” said one source, adding that “decisions he makes about his business are his decisions, not hers.”

Melania has largely kept to herself during the past month, with the exception of attending the funeral of Ivana Trump, Donald Trump’s first wife, and getting her hair done at a Manhattan hair salon.

She’s also foregone many of the more traditional tasks former first ladies take on, rarely appearing in public. Instead, much of her focus has been on selling digital nonfungible tokens (NFTs) that feature White House memorabilia from her time as first lady. One such collection included a watercolor painting and a Hervé Pierre hat accompanied by an NFT commemorating French President Emmanuel Macron’s 2018 state visit to the White House.

“I would imagine as the wife and mother of his child, she must be worried (about the future),” one long-time Trump family acquaintance told CNN. “She might be at least a little worried about how her own life will change.”

Conservatives like to joke that the FBI searched through Melania’s closet to steal her clothes.

Author Kate Andersen Brower, who’s written a book on former first ladies, said in an interview with CNN that it’s “a wasted opportunity for a former first lady not to stay relevant” with activities that keep them in the public eye.

“It’s very unusual for a former first lady not to take advantage of her continued power and prestige after she leaves office,” Andersen Brower told CNN. “But I’ve learned it’s a losing game to try and make sense of what Melania is doing.”

But frankly, I find this kind of refreshing, considering the fact that even though he’s been out of office for at least 18 months now, her husband’s bloated orange face is still in the news. Repeatedly. Whether we like it or not.
