You know all that red-faced screaming and hollering that Alex Jones does when he’s on-screen? Well, according to his ex-wife Kelly Jones, he’s like that 24/7. Meaning all that carrying-on and over-the-top ridiculousness is not an act. Kelly also said he’s worse in real life and “Kind of crazy like Charlie Charles Manson.”
“In person, as a human being, he is more unhinged and weirder and terrifying and threatening and looming and raging, I would say, than on screen,” she told Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, in an interview Friday.
Right off the bat, Uygur got to the heart of the matter with Jones, who sought custody of their children with the Infowars host during their very public 2015 divorce due to his behavior which led her to describe him as “not a stable person,” TheWrap [1] reports.
“So Kelly, I think a lot of people wonder, is it an act with Alex Jones or is he really that unhinged?” Uygur asked. “Is he crazy or is he fake?”
Kelly didn’t hesitate in her anger.
“That’s a central con to my divorce that’s been reiterated through media,” she said. “His attorneys argued that he was a performance actor like Batman. And they did that to keep all footage of ‘InfoWars’ coming before the jury saying that ‘Oh he’s not like that at all.'”
That’s not all she had to say.
“In person, as a human being, he is more unhinged and weirder and terrifying and threatening and looming and raging, I would say, than on screen. And he’s, he’s modified on screen,” she explained. “And you can see this… when he says, ‘Oh, I have to go off the air right now,’ because he’s going back into like the real person, right? The real rage is coming out.”
She characterized her ex’s behavior as “extreme” — and considerably worse than that.
“I look at him that’s a kind of crazy like a Charlie Charles Manson or like somebody that really needs to be institutionalized because he does,” she said. “He is a mentally ill, dangerous kind of mentally ill person. And his behaviors are abhorrent.”
I couldn’t have been happier when he was ordered [2] in early August to pay almost $50 million in compensatory [3] and punitive [4] damages to the family of a six-year-old who died in the Sandy Hook massacre after claiming time and again that the December 2012 shooting was a hoax. I’ve had a gun pointed in my face and had friends murdered in acts of gun violence, so the fact that Jones is being taken to the cleaners over this is a happy occasion for me.
And his legal problems are far from over. A pair of additional damages hearings are looming over him after he and his media company, Free Speech Systems, were ruled liable in November 2021 for defaming and causing the families of the shooting victims serious emotional distress.
Imagine being this callous — haranguing bereaved families whose children will never grow up, never have the chance to realize potential, calling them liars and being delusional enough to keep believing this despite what the actual evidence shows.
Jones makes crazy claims on a daily basis, and some of his doozies include claiming Michelle Obama is transgender, [5] that NFL players who kneel during the national anthem are promoting white genocide, [6] that global warming is a hoax cooked up [7] by the World Bank, and that Hurricane Irma, which did so much damage to Puerto Rico, may have been [8] geo-engineered.
I’m glad Jones is having his day(s) in court. It’s what he deserves. I hope Kelly Jones and their children are healing. It couldn’t have been easy living with such a bombastic jerk.
