Jan. 6 Rioter Turned in by the Ex-Girlfriend He Called a ‘Moron’ Gets 9 Months in Prison

The ex-girlfriend of one Jan. 6 Capitol rioter didn’t take kindly to him calling her a “moron” because she didn’t believe Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 presidential election being “stolen” from him. So she turned him in and now the former boyfriend, Richard Michetti, of Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to nine months in federal prison, NBCNews reports.

Michetti pleaded guilty last May to a felony count of obstruction of an official proceeding. He admitted going inside the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot and yelling “we feed your family,” “you are just taking orders,” and “we pay you,” at police. He claims he “gesticulated at the officers and at one point briefly pinched the sleeve of one officer.” He also told officers the rioters were “starting a civil war.”

Michetti wound up being arrested in February after his ex-girlfriend gave his name to the FBI. He’d called his former girlfriend, referred to as “Witness 1” in an FBI affidavit, a “moron” as they texted back and forth when Michetti stormed the Capitol.

“If you can’t see the election was stolen, you’re a moron,” he wrote at the time.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper saw the situation for what it is and sentenced him to two years of supervised release. He will serve this after serving his nine-month sentence in federal prison.

The “Jesus Saves” sign makes this so much sweeter. I guess Jesus couldn’t help when an angry ex is involved.

Federal prosecutors were hoping for a tougher sentence, wanting him to serve 18 months in federal prison. They contended he actively participated in the attack and added that Michetti texted his “former girlfriend, that he was at the riot because he believed the 2020 presidential election had been ‘rigged’ and ‘stolen.'”

The prosecutors wrote that Michetti “believed that certification of the 2020 presidential election was creating a ‘civil war’ and engaged with hundreds of others to jointly try and stop Congress from doing its Constitutional duty.”

“He personally confronted police and encouraged other rioters who were assaulting officers in the Old Senate Chamber hallway,” the prosecutors wrote. “Michetti was sprayed twice with irritant and twice remained in the Capitol building despite the clear efforts of police to force him and other rioters to leave.”

But at least he’ll be serving time, and I really have to ask: Who’s the real moron here?
