The New Yorker’s Satirist Andy Borowitz Goes Viral With His Incredible Takedown of Melania Trump

Once again, the New Yorker’s Andy Borowitz nails down his dominance of satire while proving it is not easily done at his level. The headline alone provides a true “laugh out loud,” not the silly net “LOLs.” Melania Wishes She Could Get Divorced Just by Thinking About It.

But the true genius in the article comes out in comparing the ridiculousness of Trump’s assertion to any similar notions about divorce. In other words, declassifying documents is a process that has to go through several protective layers – at least if done properly – the most important of which is, “Will declassifying this document get one of our sources killed or expose methods we use all over the world?” The old “sources and methods” calculations.

It is similar to a divorce in that lawyers and courts have to review the claims to assets and an equitable division of such according to the laws of that state.

Borowitz’s satire includes a brilliant quote from “Melania” stressing that she isn’t necessarily wanting a divorce, just thinking about it.

At the conclusion of the interview, Mrs. Trump emphasized, once again, that she was happy in her marriage to Donald Trump. “I live in a beautiful home with all the nuclear codes a woman could want,” she said.

The second layer of hilariousness. She provides devastating evidence in the interview that Trump still has the nuclear codes among those “declassified documents.” Perhaps the easiest way to get a divorce? Stay married, have the money, not have to deal with him? The “marriage” of thinking that one can declassify anything simply by thinking it with Trump still having nuclear codes is, obviously, farcical. But Melania doing an interview that gives out critical evidence against Trump is not.

Some of us want to break Borowitz’s keyboard because satire looks so easy… until you read his columns that are so elegantly simple while being hilarious. The story is found on the New Yorker site [1].
