GOP Hypocrisy

Crowd Gets Awkwardly Silent as Trump Whines That He’s the Most Persecuted President in History

Another day, another round of Donald Trump complaining about something and then reiterating a demonstrably false claim. This time he took the opportunity to do that during a speech at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) Hispanic Leadership Conference in Miami, where he grumbled about the ongoing investigations surrounding him and told the audience he thinks he’s the most persecuted president ever, according to Raw Story.

I’m pretty sure that if former President Richard Nixon were alive and was able to, he’d disagree, considering the Watergate scandal which led to his resignation. But that’s just me.

At any rate, Trump continued to play the victim.

“Just look at how every other president has been treated after they left office,” Trump told the crowd. “They’ve been given all the time needed and complete deference when it came to their documents and their papers.”

He went on to say that no other “president has been harassed and persecuted than we have.”

Then he reiterated a claim that former President Barack Obama “moved more than 20 truckloads — over 33 million pages of papers, classified and unclassified, to a poorly built and totally unsafe former furniture store with no security whatsoever.”

But a USAToday fact check shows this claim is demonstrably false. Instead, the National Archives and Records Administration “gained custody of Obama’s documents in 2017, according to the agency’s statement. It transferred 30 million unclassified records to a facility in Chicago, and Obama had no say in the process.”

Then Trump doubled down on the crazy, accusing the National Archives of being a “radical left-run agency.”

Perhaps it’s best to remember that Trump may well be the president who’s told the most lies in history. Because that’s been a constant with him before, during, and after his presidency. The Washington Post has famously noted that during his four years as president, Trump has told at least 30, 573 lies. Maybe it’s also a good idea to remember that as president, Trump spent nearly a full year playing golf, compared to former President Barack Obama, who played 333 rounds of golf while in office.

The problem with repeating false claims is that few people check these things out, and certainly, Trump’s avid supporters are going to hang on to his every word. That lack of critical thinking brought us January 6th and if Trump continues to spread falsehoods, as he almost certainly will do, who knows what else will happen?

Here’s Trump having a pity party at the conference in the clip below.
