GOP Hypocrisy

Trump is Starting to Reconsider Campaigning for Herschel Walker, In Case More Scandals Come Out

Scandals are growing like weeds around Herschel Walker’s ongoing campaign for the Georgia Senate and apparently, this is making former President Donald Trump, who endorsed him earlier, a bit nervous. CNN reports that he’s reluctant to return to the “Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation” state because he’s worried more scandals may follow, Insider reports.

According to a source cited by CNN, those within the former president’s orbit are worried more troubling revelations about Walker’s personal life may emerge.

So even though Trump has endorsed the former National Football League running back, the growing scandals may mean he won’t hit the campaign trail in Georgia.

The Daily Beast broke a report earlier this week that upped the scandal ante by quite a bit and the information directly contradicts his supposed “pro-life, no exceptions” stance on abortion. That report reveals that Walker paid a woman to have an abortion in 2009 — a looming scandal that could really do damage here.

Walker is, of course, denying the claim and says he is thinking of suing the publication but the outlet, in additional reporting on Wednesday noted the woman is someone he had a child with.

The report upset Walker’s son, Christian, enough so that the young man verbally attacked his father in public — calling him a hypocrite and accusing him of abusive behavior towards his family.

“I know my mom and I would really appreciate if my father Herschel Walker stopped lying and making a mockery of us,” Christian posted on Twitter.

“You’re not a ‘family man’ when you left us to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over 6 times in 6 months running from your violence.

“I don’t care about someone who has a bad past and takes accountability. But how DARE YOU LIE and act as though you’re some ‘moral, Christian upright man.’ You’ve lived a life of DESTROYING other peoples lives. How dare you.”

Trump is already juggling enough problems, which he himself caused, and he needs more problems about as much as he does another impeachment. CNN’s source apparently also told the network:

“The president has been to Georgia twice in the past year and the state was in a good part until yesterday — so now we have to see how the ground shifts.”

Trump did issue a statement in support of Walker, and CNN reports he has been urged by Republican groups to continue supporting Walker.

CNN also notes Trump is likely to wait until the October 14 debate between Walker and incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock, his Democratic opponent before deciding to return to the state.

Republicans are hoping to overtake the Democrats’ thin majority, and Georgia is viewed as a key battleground state, crucial for winning back the chamber.

Trump may live to rue the day he endorsed Walker. His campaign seems to be in crash-and-burn mode, enough so that a Survey USAToday poll has found Warnock has a 12-point lead over Walker.

Obviously, Trump is afraid of being swept up in the political fallout.
