Georgia GOP Senate hopeful Herschel Walker is apparently not happy that former President Barack Obama questioned his suitability for office so he’s responded by challenging Obama to compare resumes, The Independent [1] reports. Obama described Walker as more of a “celebrity” than a politician.
Obama hit the campaign trail for Walker’s Democratic opponent, incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock in Georgia last Friday. As he spoke he called Walker a “celebrity who wants to be a politician.” He added that being a good football player doesn’t qualify someone to help run a country.
“In college, [Mr. Walker] was amazing. One of the best running backs of all time,” Obama told his audience. “But here is the question: Does that make him the best person to represent you in the U.S. Senate? Does that make him equipped to weigh in on the critical decisions about our economy and our foreign policy and our future?”
Obama then said Walker has shown little interest in gaining civics-minded sets of skills to help him prepare for a possible career in politics.
“There is very little evidence that he has taken any interest, bothered to learn anything about or displayed any kind of inclination towards public service or volunteer work or helping people in any way,” the former president said.
But Obama also addressed other troubling things about Walker — including his “issues of character” and “habit of not telling the truth” (that may be [2] the understatement of the year.) Obama also brought up the dumb incident that occurred during a recent debate, calling Walker “someone who carries around a phony badge and says he is in law enforcement like a kid playing cops and robbers.”
Did I say that was dumb? Welp, it was. Really, really dumb.
Walker has since responded to Obama’s remarks, during an appearance on Fox News. Anchor Brian Kilmeade asked the Heisman trophy winner if he’d ever met Obama and how he felt about the former president’s criticism.
“I never met [Mr. Obama} before, and if I’m a celebrity I would have met him because all he did was hang out with celebrities. He forgot to tell people I created one of the largest minority-owned food service companies in the U.S., so I do sign the front of a check, which he’s probably never done except when he was in the White House and that Senator [Raphael] Warnock has never done either,” Walker retorted.
This is the point where Walker suggested he and Obama compare resumes and suggested that his resume was more impressive.
“So I created businesses, I sit on a publicly traded board, so those are things I’ve done outside of football,” Walker said. “But my resume against his resume I’d put it up any time of the day, and I think I’ve done well. One of the things I’d say to the people is that [Obama] is not in Georgia voting.”
Well, that’s true. If he were he’d be voting for Warnock. Who is arguably the best person for this job. I’m going to also add that as a politician, Walker makes a fine football player.
I can’t picture Raphael Warnock holding up a phony badge, can you?
