‘Compromised’: Far-Right GOP Rep Calls for Jill Biden to Be Investigated

Folks, this may be the dumbest thing you’ll read all week. I’m not kidding. I certainly understand why Republicans want to find out more about the classified documents that were found by President Joe Biden’s lawyers at his former office inside the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C. And I know they’re still kicking around Hunter Biden’s laptop.

I get it. But at least one Republican said he also wants to see first lady Jill Biden investigated as well.

What? Even by Republican standards, this is stretching.

But the Republican doing the stretching here is Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs. According to Newsweek, Biggs has urged authorities to investigate Joe Biden, his son Hunter, and Jill Biden, saying they are all “compromised.”

Biggs was responding to a report by CBS that revealed the classified documents were found at the aforementioned location by Biden’s lawyers and it led him to respond on Twitter, saying that “Biden stole classified documents and stored them at his think tank while he was VP. The VP does not have any authority to declassify classified documents.”

He followed that up by writing “The Biden family highly concerns me. Joe, Hunter, and even ‘Dr.’ Jill. They are compromised and must be investigated.”

So by that same token, why isn’t Melania Trump being investigated in connection with the classified documents that her husband allegedly misappropriated? I mean, at the very least, hasn’t Melania been grifty with her NFTs?

Biggs’ sentiments reflect the vitriol that’s been expressed by MAGA Republicans in the House of Representatives and by former President Donald Trump following news of the classified documents. The former President and Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) are calling for the FBI to raid Biden’s home as they did at Mar-a-Lago and Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga..) and Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) are accusing Biden of intentionally stealing the documents and concealing their discovery before the midterms.

The White House has since confirmed the discovery of the classified documents by Biden’s lawyers following CBS’s report.

Biden’s attorneys found the documents on November 2 while they were cleaning out the offices of the think tank where Biden worked from 2017 until 2020. They reportedly informed the National Archives and Records Administration on the same day. The materials were obtained by the agency the next morning.

The Justice Department was subsequently notified of the findings and is currently reviewing the documents that were discovered at the Penn Biden Center, according to the White House.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has chosen Chicago U.S. Attorney John Lausch, a Trump appointee to produce a report on the review.

There’s not the least bit of evidence that Jill Biden is in any way involved in the mishandling of the documents by her husband, and she has never been the subject of a criminal or federal investigation.

Of course, Biggs may have his own ax to grind. He’s one of five Republicans following the failed attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 (including Greene, who may have also asked for a pardon) according to testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson, a former Trump told the January 6 committee last year.

Biggs has denied asking for a pardon and turned down an invitation by the January 6 committee to meet with them, instead calling their investigation into the riot “a sham.”

It’s understandable that the Republicans want to investigate the small number of classified documents that were found by Biden’s lawyers but the big difference here is that the White House has been quite forthcoming about this. We sure can’t say that about Trump’s legal team. And it seems ridiculous to me that Biggs is calling for Jill Biden to be investigated. I say if this happens perhaps the spotlight should be turned on Melania as well.

That makes just about as much sense, after.
