GOP Hypocrisy

Donald Trump is Getting a New Neighbor at Mar-a-Lago and it’s a True Trump Hater

These days, former president Donald Trump is hibernating inside Mar-a-Lago, his walled-in fortress where he’s hiding from the mountain of legal problems he’s facing. Of course, there aren’t too many of us who mind the fact that he’s become a virtual shut-in and mainly uses Truth Social to spew his vitriol, but now something else is happening that is also likely to drive him nuts.

He and the missus are gaining a new neighbor, the gay, rich, and completely fabulous Tom Ford, who is decidedly not a supporter of the former president or his wife, Queerty reports.

Ford has plunked down $51 million on a sprawling Palm Beach estate, Architectural Digest reports. The property includes a sprawling 10,000-square-foot main residence, a rectangular pool, and a two-bedroom guest house located roughly a mile from the disgraced ex-president’s compound.

“Fashion mogul Tom Ford has purchased a modern Palm Beach mansion for $51 million in an off-market deal. The property spans close to an acre and includes roughly 10,000 square feet of living space,” realtor Josh Stein posted on Twitter.

Trump hasn’t been particularly kind to the LGBTQ community and he and Ford, 61, have a contentious relationship.

Ford, 61, snapped up the massive $51million Jungle Road compound (pictured) from private-equity businessman Rob Heyvaert, who purchased the property for $35.75million in August 2021. The three-bedroom main home and two-bedroom guesthouse was designed by architect Daniel Kahan, who won an award for the design from the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach in 2019

It didn’t help that a tweet with a quote attributed to Ford went viral that claimed he said he didn’t want to dress Melania because she’s a “glorified escort who steals speeches and has bad taste in men.”

I can’t argue with the last two parts, but the fact is, the biting quote is false and Ford vehemently denies he ever said this.

“Never! Never, ever, ever, have I said that Melania was an escort,” he told Women’s Wear Daily. “I’ve never said anything derogatory about Melania. I never would say anything derogatory. It’s so weird, isn’t it, in today’s world the way someone out of nowhere can just make up a random quote and start circulating it on the Internet?”

Things have been sour between the two men before this, however.

Before Trump was elected president, Ford, a Democrat, said he voted for Hillary Clinton and admitted he wasn’t interested in dressing Melania for any events or appearances.

“I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined,” Ford said in November 2016. “She’s not necessarily my image.”

Owie.

In the weeks that followed, Ford explained his reasons for not wanting to work with Melania and said it had to do with patriotism.

“Given this President’s beliefs about ‘made in America’ — I think the clothes they wear should be made in America,” he said in an interview with ELLE.com at the 2017 Golden Globes.

“I think that whoever is the President, or the First Lady, should be wearing clothes at a price point that are accessible to most Americans, and wearing clothes made in America. My clothes are made in Italy. They’re very, very expensive.”

He also added he thinks the President and First Lady should exemplify things that most Americans can identify with.

“I don’t think most women or men in our country can relate to that, and I think the First Lady or the President should represent all people.”

I don’t believe Donald or Melania Trump understood, or even cared about this. Melania’s off-the-wall Christmas decorations certainly demonstrated this, and her husband’s frequent and expensive golf trips aren’t even something most Americans can afford.

And Trump being Trump, he retorted in typical snarky fashion, denying that Melania ever wanted the services of the former creative director of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, Queerty reports.

“[She] never asked Tom Ford, doesn’t like Tom Ford, doesn’t like his designs,” Trump said in a TV appearance, Allure reported in 2017. “I’m not a fan of Tom Ford, never have been.”

While Ford obviously prefers to avoid Mar-a-Lago, he’s good friends with another Trump relative who’s also a Democrat: Karlie Kloss, who’s sister-in-law to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.

Here’s a clip of Ford in an interview with ABC News.
