During last month’s White House state dinner honoring French President Emanuel Macron, Hunter Biden strolled up to the 82-year-old mother of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and told her she looked “beautiful” the New York Post reports.

President Joe Biden’s son was among the earliest guests to arrive at the soiree, as were McCarthy (R-Calif.) and his mom, Roberta, the New York Times reported Wednesday. McCarthy repeatedly said he intends to investigate the younger Biden and his father, but that didn’t dissuade Hunter and his wife, Melissa from approaching McCarthy and the two men shook hands, per the Times.

“Mrs. McCarthy, you look beautiful,” Biden told Roberta McCarthy, a source told the newspaper.

“I’m a friend of your sons,” he said, smiling.

There have been previous reports about the House Speaker and first son chatting it up at the Dec. 1, 2022 state dinner, but the details surrounding their brief conversation were unknown at the time. But in a report from that time, The Washington Post noted that to those observing the interaction it looked like a “classic Biden-style moment of trying to charm an adversary.”

The GOP, of course, has been gung-ho about going after Hunter Biden ever since the Washington Post did an expose on the president’s younger son in October 2020 regarding his financial dealings overseas. This includes the newly-elected House Oversight Committee Chair, James Comer, who intends to investigate whether Joe Biden, 80, was involved or derived any benefits from his son’s overseas business dealings. Comer has claimed that he believes the entire Biden family is somehow involved, which raises national security concerns.

And according to a report Wednesday from The New York Times, David C. Weiss, the U.S. Attorney for Delaware who has been tasked with heading the federal investigation into Hunter Biden, is apparently close to deciding whether to prosecute him. The report also states Weiss is focusing on possible charges relating to the younger Biden’s alleged failure to meet the filing deadlines for his 2016 and 2017 tax returns, along with possibly $30,000 in fraudulent deductions he made for business expenses, and for falsely claiming on a U.S. government form that he was not using drugs when he purchased a handgun in 2018.

Isn’t it funny how McCarthy, Comer, and scores of other Republicans aren’t concerned that former President Donald Trump’s company, the Trump Organization was found guilty on all of the counts it faced of criminal tax fraud? Seems to me they have conveniently forgotten this and frankly, Hunter Biden’s alleged transgressions are pale by comparison.
