Trump Miraculously Won His Club’s Golf Championship Despite Missing the Entire First Day

Never one to be humble, former President Donald Trump once admitted he is “always the best at sports.” That comes to mind because he somehow grabbed the gold medal at his Florida golf club’s senior golf championship Sunday. And it’s all that much more amazing when you consider he did this despite skipping the first day because he was in North Carolina for the memorial service that was held for Lynette “Diamond” Hardaway of the famed Diamond & Silk duo, The Daily Beast notes.

But as is typical of Trump, he was boastful, of course, but also subtly plugged his presidential aspirations. And perhaps took a dig at President Joe Biden while doing so.

Describing the win as “a great honor” in a post on Truth Social, Trump bragged, “Competed against many fine golfers, and was hitting the ball long and straight… You need strength and stamina to WIN, & I have strength & stamina — most others don’t. You also need strength & stamina to GOVERN!”

Of course, Trump loves to tout his so-called athletic prowess. This is nothing new.

As Esquire notes, Trump has worked hard to convince people he’s a star athlete. This includes during a taped 2015 interview for a book on his life. Trump had lots of boasting to do here, telling interviewer Michael D’Antonio that he was “the best baseball player in New York” and was on top of his game in a lot of other ways when he was younger.

“I was always the best athlete. Something that nobody knew about me. … I was the best baseball player in New York when I was young. … But I also knew that it was very limited, because in those days you couldn’t even make a lot of money playing baseball. … Everybody wanted me to be a baseball player. But I was good in other sports too. I was good in wrestling, I was very good at football. I was always the best at sports.”

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think he’d have given Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays a run for their money.

And as all of the other competitors teed off at Trump International Golf Club Saturday, Trump was nearly 700 miles away in Fayetteville, North Carolina, preparing to eulogize Diamond at Fayetteville Crown Theater. She died suddenly roughly two weeks ago at age 51.

“Through the tears and the grief, let us celebrate this incredible life,” he told mourners.

But the very next morning, according to insiders who spoke to the Daily Mail, Trump was on the green at West Palm Beach, already holding a five-point lead over his closest competition. The Mail also noted that Trump bragged about playing an excellent round earlier in the week, and said that game would be considered his first day’s score.

I know next to nothing about golf. Is this something that’s even allowed?

Trump posted this weekend that because he can golf, it proves he is healthy and therefore doesn’t need any health exams.

The Daily Beast’s AJ McDougall and Zachary Petrizzo talked to Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung, asking him about the discrepancy. Cheung bragged upside down and sideways about his boss (of course).

“In addition to being an excellent golfer, President Trump is an even better human being,” he said. “He was honored to be in North Carolina on Saturday to celebrate the life of Diamond, a remarkable individual whose legacy will continue to live on.”

Which is one of the politest ways of not answering a question that I’ve ever seen.

Trump has always said he’s never, ever cheated at golf, and that he’s come by his numerous club championship titles honestly. That, however, isn’t what sportswriter Rick Reilly had to say about Trump in a 2019 interview with Vox.

“This guy cheats like a Mafia accountant.”

“Trump’s going around telling people he has won 20 [club championships],” Reilly said at one point. “But that’s 100 percent a lie. I actually played with him once, and he told me how he does it: Whenever he opens a new golf course, because he owns 14 and operates another five, he plays the first club champion by himself and declares that the club championship and puts his name on the wall.”

Yeah, sounds like Trump. We’ve had years of his constant bragging while really not getting anything of any real substance done.
