Another day, another mental breakdown. And Donald Trump’s meltdown today is over a television channel.

Trump is famously addicted to television, obsessing over ratings throughout his presidency and even preferring to watch the Capitol riot play out live on the news on January 6th rather than actually stop the rioting as members of his inner circle begged him to do.

While Trump was once dependent on Fox News for favorable coverage, ever since they have become more friendly towards Ron DeSantis, Trump has preferred to watch Fox’s smaller right-wing rivals like Newsmax and One America News (OAN).

But, on Wednesday, AT&T announced that it would be dropping Newsmax from its DirecTV service, just as it had previously ditched OAN. The move caused Trump to hit Truth Social to freak out, per usual.

Trump sent his first post on Wednesday, saying “WOW. AT&T DIRECTV REMOVES NEWSMAX FROM ITS CHANNEL LINEUP. This disgusting move comes after “deplatforming” OAN last year. The Radical Left seems to have taken over the mind and soul of AT&T. This is a big blow to the Republican Party, and to America itself. For DIRECTV to drop very popular NEWSMAX, without explanation, will not be accepted. I, for one, will be dropping all association with AT&T and DIRECTV, and I have plenty. This is just one of many reasons why we must WIN IN 2024!!!”

Then this afternoon Trump continued, saying, “I think that AT&T, which is heavily over $leveraged, and it’s DIRECTV, should CANCEL CNN & MSDNC (MSNBC) in that their Ratings are so pathetically bad that it must be an embarrassment to be associated with them. PUT NEWSMAX & OAN BACK ON — THE REPUBLICAN PARTY DEMANDS IT!!!”

Trump then called for CNN and MSNBC to be dropped, saying “CANCEL CNN & MSDNC (MSNBC). FAKE NEWS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO “STINK UP” OUR AIRWAVES! DIRECTV, WHICH IS DOING REALLY BADLY, & AT&T, WHICH IS DOING EVEN WORSE, SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR DROPPING NEWSMAX AND OAN. WE SHOULD DROP THEM!!!”

DirecTV has actually offered an explanation for its decision, according to The Daily Beast, making it clear that the call was made because Newsmax had begun to demand higher rates for showing its content while making its programmes available for free elsewhere.

Christopher Ruddy, Newsmax’s CEO, has denied that claim and insisted instead that his organization has fallen victim to a “blatant act of political discrimination and censorship”.
