Donald Trump wrote an ominously shocking post on Truth Social threatening “death and destruction” if he’s criminally charged in New York. What’s especially creepy about this is he preceded the post with an image of himself holding a baseball bat right next to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s head.

“They are HUMAN SCUM!” Trump raged in one post where he asked why Bragg “refuses to do the right thing and ‘call it a day?'”

Trump has tossed his MAGA hat into the 2024 presidential campaign ring and this isn’t the first time he’s used fiery language ahead of real violence — the most notorious example of that is the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. He’d exhorted thousands of his supporters to march to the Capitol and “fight like hell” to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral college win.

Trump shared the now-deleted image of himself holding a baseball bat next to Bragg’s head who’s also holding his hands up. He spent the better part of the day attacking the prosecutor for continuing the investigation into the hush money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels. The image of him holding the bat comes from a story about him that he’d shared. According to The New York Post, this wasn’t removed.

The Post didn’t fail to note that the bat-wielding image was reminiscent of an infamous scene from the 1987 film The Untouchables, where mob boss Al Capone, played by Robert De Niro, walks around a banquet table menacingly wielding a baseball bat before finally bludgeoning one of his thugs to death.

And for his part, Trump raged well into the early morning hours of Friday, keeping up the fiery name-calling.

“What kind of person can charge another person, in this case a former President of the United States, who got more votes than any sitting President in history, and leading candidate (by far!) for the Republican Party nomination, with a Crime, when it is known by all that NO Crime has been committed, & also known that potential death & destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our Country?” he asked a little past 1 a.m.

“Why & who would do such a thing? Only a degenerate psychopath that truely [sic] hates the USA!”

He kept this dangerous nonsense up until 2 a.m. — then was back at it again after 9 a.m., complaining about “PROSECUTORIAL MISCONDUCT!”

The images, especially the baseball bat one, enraged people, “with few people coming out to bat for him,” per the Post.

CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen fired off a tweet where he wrote “threatening a prosecutor is a crime in NY. In fact, multiple crimes.”

How much do you want to bet that Trump isn’t bright enough to know that?

And some, like George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley, who testified for Trump’s first impeachment hearing, have warned him repeatedly against using violent rhetoric.

“[M]any of us have criticized the reported indictment as deeply flawed and politically motivated,” Turley posted on Twitter Friday. “However, that will be addressed by the courts. The rule of law will be protected by the bench, not the bat, in our constitutional system.”

Turley also blasted him Thursday for writing in all caps “OUR COUNTRY IS BEING DESTROYED, AS THEY TELL US TO BE PEACEFUL!”

“Given the violence on 1/6 and riots in various cities, our leaders have to avoid reckless, rhetoric,” Turley wrote. “Being peaceful is not just a legal obligation but a civic duty of citizens.”

One person on Twitter described Trump as a “violent, pathological criminal” who is “dangerous, unhinged, and running free to incite violence in America.”

Trump has now threatened “death and destruction” if he is indicted the the Stormy Daniels case. He has called DA Bragg an “animal.” He published a split screen photo of himself with a baseball bat and Bragg. He is threatening a public official.

Keith Olbermann, on his podcast Countdown with Keith Olbermann, noted: “URGENT: Overnight Trump made ADDITIONAL terrorist threats against Alvin Bragg. The latest vows ‘death and destruction.’

Trump must be arrested and as a lethal danger to Bragg, Letitia James, Jack Smith, Fani Willis detained WITHOUT BAIL.”

Olbermann also tagged the Justice Department and raged “ARREST TRUMP NOW.”

Let’s not kid ourselves here, folks: Trump will continue to stoke violence all the way up to Election Day 2024 and after. We already know his supporters are only too ready to engage in violent acts in the name of their messiah. I hope the right people are paying attention.
