Mitch McConnell is just not a likable guy. He’s the most unpopular senator [1] in the country, and even Republicans want the old dude to retire already.
On Thursday McConnell announced he would return to the senate on Monday for the first time in more than five weeks after suffering a concussion following a fall at a private dinner in early March.
McConnell tweeted that he would be in the Capitol when the Senate returned from the two-week April recess, which it did yesterday.
“I am looking forward to returning to the Senate on Monday. We’ve got important business to tackle and big fights to win for Kentuckians and the American people,” he tweeted.

McConnell, who is 81 years old, suffered a concussion after tripping and falling at a private dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in downtown Washington, D.C., on March 8. He was taken by an ambulance to an undisclosed hospital where he stayed for several days of rest and observation.
He was then discharged from the hospital on March 13 to an inpatient rehabilitation facility, where he continued to recover until doctors sent him home on March 25. That’s quite a bit of time to recover from a fall, so obviously the fall was rather serious, and concussions are never good, especially in the elderly.
There was also a rumor that McConnell was preparing to retire [3], but his tweet certainly contradicts that.
And if McConnell expected his tweet to well received, it wasn’t. In fact, it was just the opposite. Scores of people let McConnell know exactly what they wanted him to do. Most surprisingly, many of the responses were from his fellow conservatives:
Stay home. You suck.

Bummer – hoped you had retired. You definitely are the poster child for why term limits are needed.

We prefer you resign, effective immediately!

Oh Mitch, your entire career has been one of corruption and dishonesty. No one escapes the wrath coming for the evil ones. You’re on the list. ✝️

Resign RINO!! You have done nothing and will do nothing for the American people.

We’re looking forward to you resigning from the Senate. Do us all a favor and do it now #RINO [9]!

You never do anything good for the country and never have. You are a prime example of why we must have term limits.

You're a compromised Rino Mitch! Retire, so we can get a patriot who stands strong with the Republicans no matter what it is or who it is! A politician isn't about you, it's about the party as a whole!

Which Kentuckians? Pregnant 10 year old rape victims? Trans kids? The elderly and disabled? Single moms trying to support three kids on $7.25/hr? Kentucky teachers? Kentucky public school students? Or just wealthy Russian oligarchs?

You will do a huge favor to humanity if you just enjoy your golden years at home.

Unless you did a lot of soul searching while in the hospital, you won’t fight any fights for Kentucky or for the American people, only for your own profit.

And of course it wouldn’t be a Mitch tweet without some turtle responses:
