As we’ve seen in years past, former President Donald Trump has some strange obsessions — Hillary Clinton’s emails, Joe Biden’s brain, fake news, fake elections that aren’t fake, and billionaire George Soros, who seems to be his most recent obsession.

Trump is now promising that if he’s elected in 2024 he will launch “sweeping” investigations of “Marxist” prosecutors that he believes are in Soros’s pocket, Newsweek reports.

He was all a-rant about this in a video he posted to Truth Social Thursday, and he claimed (once again evidence-free) that the U.S. is being plagued by “Marxist” and “Communist” prosecutors who are being influenced by Soros. The Jewish philanthropist and Democratic mega-donor is, for some reason, a common obsession of far-right nutballs. I don’t know why they choose Soros over, say Warren Buffet, who is also a Democrat, but that’s just me.

But Trump is vowing to overhaul The Justice Department if he is elected. He specifically wants to target the prosecutors in “civil rights investigations” because he believes “these Soros prosecutors appear to be engaging in selective enforcement based on illegal racial discrimination.”

“As we completely overhaul the federal Department of Justice and FBI, we will also launch sweeping civil rights investigations into Marxist lecal District Attorneys,” the former president said. “And that’s what we have—they are Marxist in many cases.”

I don’t think Trump would know what Marxism or Communism are even if he was dropped in Putin’s Russia. It’s quite evident Trump wants to do this to get at District Attorney Alvin Bragg because Bragg has the cold, hard facts on him and Trump doesn’t like it one bit. It’s in Bragg’s courtroom earlier this month where Trump was indicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in New York. Right after that happened Trump claimed Bragg was “hand-picked and funded by George Soros” shortly after news of his indictment broke.

And that claim is simply a big, fat NOPE. As Newsweek notes, ties between Soros and Bragg are likely nonexistent even though Trump and other Republicans have claimed otherwise. There’s no evidence that Bragg or Soros are connected in any way, or that they have communicated with each other, or even met.

It’s been verified that Soros is one of a number of major donors to the Progressive Political Action Committee (PAC) Color of Change, which contributed campaign donations to Bragg and other progressive district attorney candidates.

And Trump’s contention that Bragg was “hand-picked” by Soros is flat-out wrong. Bragg was elected to the position. Soros played a tiny part in this since he donated indirectly his campaign via Color of Change, but as Newsweek notes, that can be said about anyone else who donated to the PAC or his campaign.

Trump didn’t mention Bragg by name during his video rant-fest, but he did call out a “Soros prosecutor in Austin, Texas.” He was referring to Travis County District Attorney José Garza, who prosecuted Uber driver Daniel Perry who wound up being convicted of murdering a “Black Lives Matter” protester in 2020.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Trump is also motivated by his obvious racism and anti-Semitism since Bragg is Black and Garza is Hispanic. And of course, Soros is Jewish.

I don’t know if Trump would be able to enforce any of this if he’s elected but it’s clear he wants to move the U.S. several more steps toward becoming a fascist country.

I’m almost certain Trump won’t be reelected but if he is, all of this is scary. I hope people remember this on Election Day 2024. His supporters will almost certainly do his bidding and if Trump doesn’t get his way, the January 6 2021 attack on the Capitol may be a harbinger of things to come.
