Marjorie Taylor Greene Says White, European Melania Trump Is Perfect Immigration Example — Despite Her Breaking Immigration Law in 1996

House Republicans scrambled to put together new border protection legislation since the Trump-era Title 42 legislation is scheduled to expire on May 11, Newsweek reports. This led Marjorie Taylor Greene to compliment former first lady Melania Trump for legally (maybe) immigrating to the U.S.

While the legislation did, in fact, pass, there’s almost no chance that the bill will become law. Democrats, who hold a marginal majority in the Senate, oppose the bill, and the Biden administration is already threatening a veto.

It’s easy to see why Democrats will likely oppose the measure. It calls for the resurrection of at least one of former President Donald Trump’s infamous border wall, which would require hundreds of miles of barriers constructed along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Title 42, which Trump enacted in 2020, was a public health measure that allowed U.S. Border Patrol agents to quickly expel migrants back into Mexico on the grounds of restricting the spread of COVID-19.

As all this is going on, people are surging across some regions of the border. Agents along the Gulf Coast region report at least 30,000 migrants have crossed the border since mid-April.

That led Greene to heap praise on Melania Trump.

“I would like to remind everyone that Republicans believe in legal immigration,” Greene said Wednesday. “As a matter of fact, we are very proud of our former first lady, Melania Trump, who immigrated legally to the United States. But there is a clear difference in policies when we talk about border and security for the United States of America.”

“I think it is very important to remind my colleagues across the aisle what our oath of office actually says,” Greene continued. “We swear on an oath that we will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

“That is a very important oath to swear and it is one to uphold but this is not being upheld in the past two years under this administration. We have seen nearly 5 million people cross our border and it is unsustainable,” she said.

There has, however, been plenty of speculation as to whether Melania Trump immigrated illegally to the U.S. from her native Slovenia. Her relatives scoff at this and deny the claims. Nevertheless, her immigration story has been placed under the microscope because of her husband’s rigid stance on immigration along with a few alleged inconsistencies in her story.

Indeed, Melania’s immigration story is a bit, well, sketchy. As reported by Vox, citing the Associated Press, there is documentation that shows she broke immigration law when she first arrived in the U.S. in 1996 — she entered the country on a tourist visa, then went to work as a professional model.

Tourist visas allow a person to stay in the U.S. for six months but they don’t allow a person to work. She entered the U.S. legally, on a B1/B2 tourist visa. Then, on October 18, 1996, according to the AP, she got an H1-B visa for “skilled workers.”

The only problem?

She was “paid for 10 modeling assignments between September 10 and October 15” — while she was still using the tourist visa. Meaning, of course, she was working on a visa that didn’t legally allow her to work. Melania became a naturalized citizen in 2006.

So you can see why questions were being raised. And of course, meaning that Greene is completely wrong. Again.

Greene has recently been calling for adult film sites to be shuttered while at the same time supporting a man who is now officially labeled as someone who sexually harassed E. Jean Carroll.

She’s a full-on QAnon conspiracy believer who’s a few bricks short of a wall, border, or otherwise.
