After having a low-key birthday celebration with friends and family, it looks like Melania Trump plans to grab her son Barron, 17, and retreat to Europe so that she doesn’t have to be continually bombarded with former President Donald Trump’s legal battles, according to The Daily Mail. [1]
Trump was expected to be there if his schedule permitted, but he made no mention of his wife’s birthday on social media platforms. Instead, he spent most of his time writing about the 2024 election, pointing out polls that show him beating Joe Biden and railing that Biden is “GROSSLY INCOMPETENT AND BASICALLY, DOESN’T HAVE A CLUE!”
In other words, Trump is being true to form.
And if Melania and Barron jet to Europe, she might not have to deal with constant stories about her husband’s civil trial, in which author E. Jean Carroll has alleged he raped her in a Manhattan dressing room in the 1990s.
Trump did not show up in the New York courtroom where the case is being heard. He claims [2] he didn’t appear because he didn’t want to cause any traffic jams, although most of us already know this isn’t the real truth: He’s a coward who probably doesn’t want to face Carroll in court.
Melania has kept her cool throughout Trump’s legal debacles and as he re-treads the campaign trail. She showed up for him when he announced he was running for president last November but she hasn’t attended any of his rallies.
She was also, most notably, not around when Trump gave a speech at Mar-a-Lago, following his arrest and arraignment in a Manhattan courtroom on charges stemming from an alleged hush-money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels that led [3] to a 34-count indictment on charges of falsifying business records.
While all this is going on, Melania has sought solitude, except for her family and few friends, and her birthday celebration was a quiet affair.
“Melania likes a low-key celebration with family and that I believe is her plan for this year’s birthday,” one source told People. [4] “If Donald is here, he will be joining the family to celebrate his wife’s birthday. Despite what you hear, the Trumps are a close family.”
The source also said the former first lady, 53, is hoping to “take Barron to Europe this summer.”
“Melania is in charge of Barron and his well-being and no matter what else is going on in her life, he plays the lead role,” the person added.
It’s not known where she and Barron will be heading, but she was born in Slovenia and young Barron speaks Slovenian. So, who knows? Maybe that’s where they will go.

Earlier in April, her office released a statement challenging “assumptions” about her stance on “personal and political matters.” Donald Trump wasn’t mentioned and it also wasn’t made clear if she intends to support him during his indictment and other ongoing legal investigations.
The statement, released on April 11, criticized articles using “unnamed sources” due to widespread speculation that was caused due to her absence at his New York arraignment and his speech afterward at Mar-a-Lago. She wasn’t seen for 10 days as Trump was arraigned and only reappeared to attend an Easter Sunday brunch where she was seen sitting next to him at their personal club.
In the years since the 2016 election, Melania has been a constant focal point for the mainstream media and it’s kind of remarkable that she’s been successful in keeping to herself as much as she has been. But she married a man with absolutely no morals, little if any kindness inside him, a man who continually begs for attention whether good or bad, a man who philandered his way through three marriages, so Melania inflicted this on herself.
All I can say is I hope Barron doesn’t turn out like his father. He’s young and hopefully spending time in Europe will help shape his future.
