One of the talking points we hear most about Melania Trump is that she was a “supermodel” when she met and eventually married Donald Trump.
In fact, the first lady reportedly received the coveted EB-1 visa, or the “Einstein” visa for “extraordinary ability.” Perhaps being a world-renowned model would grant her that status, but was she a supermodel?
In 2016 when nude photos of Melania were released (purportedly under Trump’s direction by Roger Stone ), Trump said, “Melania was one of the most successful supermodels and she did many photo shoots, including covers and major magazines.”
One of the most successful supermodels??
When I think of a supermodel, I think of Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington…not Melania Knauss.
Furthermore, Melania claimed that she was one of the “Top 50” supermodels in the world.
According to Mary Jordan’s new book on Melania, “The Art of her Deal”, Melania held a rather strange press conference back in 1998 where she met with reporters and explained that she was a top model, and that she was also one of the top paid models in the world.
From “The Art of Her Deal”:
At times, her story seems to verge into exaggeration or pure confection. She described a luscious life as one of the highest-paid models in the world and added that she was “among the top 50” internationally.
Melania also claimed at the time that she was friends with many world-renowned stars:
Melania said, “I know some of the top models personally, as well as other famous personalities like Elton John, Jon Bon Jovi. Sometimes we get together, or see each other at various events.”
At this strange event, a reporter asked Melania for confirmation that she was one of the highest paid models in the world.
“Yes, yes I am” Melania replied.
But this simply isn’t true.
In researching her book about Melania, Jordan said she could find no one who ever considered her among the top 50 models in the world. Models.com which ranks models says she was never even in the top tier.
From “The Art of Her Deal””
Wolfgang Schwartz, the modeling agent based in Vienna who helped booked Melania for jobs, also did not understand how she could boast of being world-famous. She was, said Schwartz, one of hundreds of models working for him. Wyes, she was making money, “but she was not a girl with this amazing aura that everyone was fascinated by.”
After being known on Trump’s side, Melania infamously posed nude (with strategic covering) for British GQ’s “Sex at 30,000 feet: Melania Knauss earns her air miles” cover story in the January 2000 issue.
“She’s popular, she’s brilliant, she’s a wonderful woman,” Trump told the magazine. Trump has long asserted that Melania is a “supermodel” and one of the most famous in the world.
If you look for modeling photos of Melania, most of the shots are similar to these:
I mean, those aren’t high-fashion shots.
One of her more high-profile jobs included a photoshoot for the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated where she posed on the beach with an inflatable killer whale, which is not a euphemism for Donald Trump.
So I think it’s fair to say that Melania Trump, much like her husband, is a liar.
