Professional Huckster JD Vance is Terrified to Debate Kamala Harris, and With Good Reason
This year's VP debate promises to be a good one, no matter what – if it happens at all.
JD Vance, the junior senator from Ohio who just accepted his party’s nomination to be Trump’s running mate in 2024, is already acting like his would-be boss.
We’re not talking Pence-level mimicry here or anything. That would be ridiculous before he’s even got the thankless job he’s running for. Pathetic, even.
No, what I mean is, he’s already backing away from debating the current vice president, Kamala Harris. And who can blame him, really? She’s a former prosecutor, a former Attorney General (who campaign Trump donated to just ten years ago), and proved even during the Democratic primaries that she could hold her own.
In fact, if she’d adopted a Sanders/Warren-style health care plan for her own presidential campaign, she might be in the Oval Office in a different seat right now.

After the Trump campaign announced that Vance would not agree to a debate before the Democratic National Convention, senior advisor to the campaign tried to turn it into a jab at Joe Biden:
“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention. To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.”
That, of course, assumes Joe is going to drop out.
Harris had already agreed to two different debate offers from CBS, but Vance declined. The Trump campaign did agree to a debate if it were hosted by Fox News.
The thing is, jab at the current president or not, if Joe DOES drop out of the race, then it’s Trump who will have to debate her, as she would be the presumptive nominee. That would be a disaster for the Trump campaign. Harris made absolute mincemeat out of Mike Pence back in 2020, and Mike isn’t half as dumb as Trump is.
Also, he’s a convicted felon. That’s certain to come up, one would think.
Brian Fallon, Harris’ head of communications, said in a statement after Vance declined the debate:
“Now suddenly right after a damning new leak showing his support for a nationwide abortion ban, Vance is backing off a debate against Vice President Harris, who has spent the last two years prosecuting the case on behalf of reproductive freedom. This debate has been discussed for two months now. If JD Vance is unwilling to defend the Trump-Vance record on the debate stage, he should just say so.”
Either way, Kamala will be prepared. She’s sure to be already prepping for other possible eventualities anyway, given a recent interview that Biden did with BET. The president told the network, after having insisted for some time now that he was NOT dropping out, that if a doctor diagnosed him with some condition, he would consider exiting the race.
Then he was diagnosed with COVID.
Enjoy the circus, folks. This is bound to be an election for the ages.
