It looks like one of Donald Trump’s little secrets popped out on Saturday. Trump was heard repeatedly telling Secret Service agents to “let me get my shoes” as they protected him on the ground in the immediate aftermath of the attempt on his life at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
The presumptive GOP presidential nominee explained the comment — which prompted plenty of commentary and speculation on social media — in an interview with the New York Post [1].
“The agents hit me so hard that my shoes fell off, and my shoes are tight,” Trump said.
Trump wore a “loose, large white bandage that covered his right ear” during the interview that was conducted on Trump’s private plane as he flew to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, according to the report.
No pictures were allowed to be taken of the former president wearing the bandage, per the NY Post. Elsewhere in the interview, Trump said he’s “supposed to be dead.”
“A lot of people say it’s the most iconic photo they’ve ever seen,” he added of an image of him pumping his fist before being escorted away by agents.
“They’re right and I didn’t die. Usually you have to die to have an iconic picture,” he added.
A video was caught of Trump’s shoe flying off the stage, and what appears to be a lift flies out. Now, men’s shoes also have insoles, but those are very tight and fitted to the shoes. This liner drops out of the shoe rather easily. Take a look:
And now we know why Trump kept calling to get his shoes 🤣…when the Secret Service tosses them off the stage you can see the lifts fall out around :10 mark

People on social media felt the same way:
I could throw a dress shoe around all day and the sole would never come out. This is how you know it’s a lift.

Just shot at, but more worried about being embarrassed because he wears lifts in his shoes. How narcissistically *on brand.*

His vanity is the most important thing to him during the life or death event. All he cares about is that he get his 3 inch lifts back so he can feel tall and powerful and most importantly that no one every finds out his little secret.

This is what I thought, because how does dropping down in a reactive way knock you out of tied on shoes?
Now, if you have lifts and they're always almost falling off, that makes sense.

I knew it had to be the lifts. He was desperate to hide them
