I don’t think I needed to know this today. I wish I could say it was hard to imagine, but it is unfortunately far too EASY to imagine it. I’d really rather not, in fact.
Donald Trump pressured Melania to have even more children than just Barron.
That’s according to a Fox and Friends interview on Thursday with the former first lady. She’s been promoting her new memoir Melania heavily with a series of increasingly strange ads [1] on social media.
Asked by host Ainsley Earhardt about whether she ever wanted more kids after her pregnancy with son Barron, 18, Melania surprised everyone:
“I was always perfectly fine with one,” she said. “And Donald was encouraging to have more and I said, like, I’m completely fine with one because it’s [a] very busy life, and I know how busy he is. And I’m in charge of everything, so that’s why it’s — it’s just perfect.”
Well, being in charge of everything does help, although I doubt that’s true. Donald doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would let a woman control him. After all, his history shows that he tends to just trade in for a newer model when he gets bored of a wife.
She went on to tell Earhardt that the American people would be “surprised” to learn that she actually does “love” Donald Trump. When asked what she loved most about him, Melania told the host “His humor, his personality, his kindness. He is very special. His positivity. His energy — it’s unbelievable. Yeah, so we have a beautiful relationship.”
I can say with certainty that “kindness” is not a trait we have publicly seen in Trump a whole lot.
The cynic in me is tempted to point out that Trump may have wanted more children from Melania because she finally gave birth to a boy he could be proud of. It took Donald some time to come around on Barron — the young man’s height was intimidating for his father for a while.
But eventually Trump did come around, and even though he flaked out on the launch of Trump’s cryptocurrency bank that he was supposed to be an integral part of, Barron has made his father smile at least two or three times.
The same can’t be said for his other sons lately. Don Junior is in the middle of a scandal of his own, and Eric is, well, Eric.
And as for daughters? Ivanka is all grown up now and Donald seems to be over his infatuation with her. He never talked about Tiffany much to begin with.
It’s likelier, though, that Trump just wanted more Trumps.
On picking a single word to describe her husband, Melania told Earhardt, “Caring.” Then she added, “Caring, especially for this country.” Well, except for women, immigrants, the LGBTQ community, veterans, people who came here from “sh*thole countries,” and anyone who doesn’t vote for him.
When asked about her mixed family, as Trump has so many children from different wives, Melania said you should take people “as they are.”
Seeming to contradict her earlier statement about being the boss, she said “You can not control anyone. You could control only your own behavior, your own words. Everybody’s in control of [their] own self. I’m not in control of my husband. I’m not in control of his children. I’m not even in control of my child.”
That sounds like something less than a “perfect” family life, even if she says that her relationship with her husband is strong.
The more she talks about it, the more I think I might actually buy her new memoir. Not because I am particularly interested by her or her life story, but more to see what other nonsense she thinks we’ll all believe.
And as far as having any more kids is concerned, I can honestly say I’m pretty sure that ship has sailed. She’s far beyond the age when most women elect to have children, and if the rumors are true, Donald doesn’t go in for traditional affection [2] so much these days anyway. He likely doesn’t really have the stamina anymore.
And who wants to change that many diapers anyway? She’ll be changing his soon, from the looks of things.
