‘I’ve Been Canceled’: Actress Who Played Cindy on The Brady Bunch Says She Can’t Get Work Over Her Trump Support

Susan Olsen, the actress who portrayed TV’s Cindy Brady on the original Brady Bunch series and into 1990 in various Brady specials, is back in the news. She recently went on a podcast to complain that a planned Brady Bunch reunion had been nixed because of her.

No, she didn’t grow a second head or anything. Susan says producers axed the idea after finding out she was a Trump supporter.

Now, if this were a feel-good story, the reason behind the cancellation of the planned reunion would be because some genius in an office somewhere actually pulled their head out of their backside and realized it’s still animal cruelty to beat a dead horse.

But we all know how much producers like to recycle things over and over, even if the last few tries at it have been less than spectacular.

Now, Cindy — I mean, Susan — didn’t just come out and say it was Trump specifically at first. She merely mentioned her stances on the COVID vaccine and on LGBTQ+ rights which, of course, happen to align with the average Trump supporter’s views.

It could be that Cindy is still suffering from the dreaded televisionitis, a malady she picked up [1] on the “Question The Kids” show when she was in Clinton Grammar School.

But even if Cindy didn’t technically get any questions wrong in that episode (because she didn’t answer any), she’s out of step with mainstream America now, especially the kind of Americans who would enjoy another reboot of the ultra-wholesome Brady Bunch.

It’s not hard to see it coming, honestly. We’re talking about the girl who stuck Marcia’s DIARY into the donation box Carol took to the Friends In Need Society and ended up detailing her sister’s entire life in a used book store.

The Youngest One In Curls™ was so dumb, in fact, that Susan Olsen was once quoted in an Australian interview saying “I used to be grateful that the show aired on a Friday and there was a whole weekend so that hopefully people would kind of forget the dumb things Cindy did by Monday.”

It turns out Olsen is just as dumb in real life.

She was once fired from an LA radio station for retaliating against an openly gay actor who criticized her, well, Trumpiness, by sending him a private message that called him a homophobic slur.

But in this latest podcast, Olsen claims (rather improbably) that she was encouraged to take a “political correctness course” before the CBS idea of a reboot was discarded entirely.

She says she had phone calls with her agent and with her co-stars: “Everybody was saying, ‘We’re sorry, but they just won’t budge. They just will not have you in this.’ I’m like, ‘Wow, I’ve been canceled. A role that I’ve played for over 50 years, I can’t play it now because I’m too dangerous.’ I was like, ‘Well, okay guys, good luck, I hope you can sell it.'”

The show actually only ran for five seasons, although there have been plenty of ill-advised offshoots over the years, up until about 1990, involving the original cast.

It’s actually a good thing that Olsen didn’t outright claim that it was her support for Trump, because a source inside the network said that it was about her controversial comments and hate speech, simple and plain.

In the interview, Olsen discusses the fact that the network had done a simple Google search on her and come up with “50 pages” of negative results about her. She also called those 50 pages her “greatest hits,” saying that she stands by everything she’s ever said.
