Donald Trump lashed out at former President Barack Obama on Friday morning after he was asked to respond to Michelle Obama’s comments about his “birther” conspiracy theories.

In her forthcoming memoir, she described Trump’s “birther” falsehoods as “crazy and mean-spirited,” and motivated by racist bigotry, and she accused him of deliberately stoking those conspiracy theories to “stir up the wingnuts and kooks.”

“What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington?” Michelle Obama wrote. “What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.”

As Trump prepared to leave for Paris, France, Trump was asked to comment on her criticism, and he attacked former President Barack Obama instead.

“I’ll never forgive him for what he did to our United States military,” Trump said. “I’ll never forgive him for many other things.”

Twitter quickly responded:

He really needs to look at himself in the mirror when he speaks those words. I will never forgive Trump for what he has done to this country. I will never respect him and if he ever walks into a room, I will take a knee or stay seated. He is a disgrace to the office.
